Just before moving towards to know about “Benefits (Power) of chanting Krishna (Vishnu) (Hari) (Rama) name | Mudgal and Lord Yama story“, let us know few basic and important information.
This story starts from naraka / hell: Residents of naraka (hell) saved by uttering namaha to Lord Sri Krishna!
Once a great young Brahmana and a devotee of the Lord Sri Krishna called Mudgal (Mudgala) travelled to the abode of Lord Yama to meet him.
When he saw the torturous punishments inflicted by the Yama Dutas (Yama’s soldiers) on the sinful living entities, he looked at them with compassion and they saw him in return.
At once they became purified and felt momentary bliss and relief from their hellish suffering.
Lord Yama explained to young Mudgal (Mudgala) that this was possible because of his glory of worshipping the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna in your third previous life.
And also offering of charity made along with chanting the Lord Sri Krishna’s names along with ‘namaha‘ such as ‘Krishnaaya namaha‘, ‘Vasudevaaya namaha‘ etc.
Lord Yama also said as given below:
“Those who remember Lord Sri Krishna, bow down to him, take shelter of Him and worship Him by chanting mantras like:
Krishnaaya namaha, Vaasudevaaya namaha, etc. they all are not under my jurisdiction.”
Hearing this, the living entities who were suffering in hell started chanting, “Krishnaya namaha, Govindaaya namaha, Vasudevaaya namaha etc.”
Though they could not bow down because they were being tied up and punished, but they verbally offered obeisances by saying namaha to Lord Sri Krishna.
Because of the potency of the names coupled with namaha, all the devices in the Naraka (Hell) which were used to torture them stopped working.
All the weapons in the hands of the Yama Dutas (Yama’s soldiers) became blunt.
The fire burning in the Naraka (Hell) became extinguished and all the Yama Dutas (Yama’s soldiers) became diminished in their strength.
And all the Yama Dutas (Yama’s soldiers) could not exert any further punishment on the residents of Naraka (Hell).
As the chanting continued more and more, fragrant and cool breeze started flowing in that hell.
Everyone started hearing pleasing musical instruments of flute, Veena, etc.
Naraka (Hell) residents became free of the hellish coverings and became endowed with heavenly dress and ornaments.
Understanding the purifying effect of their chanting, Lord Yama immediately got up from his seat.
And started worshipping those residents of Naraka (Hell) by offering water at their feet and said:
“Those who bow down to Lord Sri Vishnu, who is known as Yajnavaraha and who is the Bhagavan (God) (Lord Sri Vishnu) of all Devatas (Demigods), I bow down to them again and again.”
“Even those who say ‘Vishnave namaha, Krishnaaya namaha, to them I bow again and again.”
As he was saying this, a heavenly plane came there and all the residents boarded into that plane and were transferred to heavenly planets (Upper and higher planets).
Their punishment was severely reduced by their offering obeisances to the Bhagavan (God) Lord Sri Vishnu with words by uttering his names joined with namaha.
(This above information with story is taken from the most divine Srimad Bhagavatam or Vishnu Purana)
Moral of the story – Let us all offer our namaha to the Lord Sri Krishna (Vishnu) (Hari) (Rama) constantly to get his blessings continuously.
