Just before going to “Devotion (bhakti) in Hinduism (information, facts, significance, importance) | Does God really bless his devotees“, let us have some brief information.

First let us understand “why we love somebody”? We love somebody, because:

We like somebody very much, we are attracted towards that particular person, we like the way they dress, we like the way they talk.

We like the way he / she smiles, we like the way he / she walks, etc. etc. etc. and there are hundreds and thousands of answers for this.

But how we can show a real bhakti towards Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu) (Lord Sri Krishna / Lord Sri Rama)?

Let us understand devotion (bhakti) unknown facts by taking few great examples of great devotees.

List of devotion (bhakti) information (facts) (significance) (importance) is as given below:

Shabari’s devotion towards Lord Rama was pure.

Shabari waited for Lord Rama for very long time.

Muchukunda was aware of Lord Krishna (Vishnu) qualities.

Muchukunda was waiting for Lord Krishna in a cave for 1000s of years.

Hanuman the greatest devotee of Lord Rama.

Chanting Lord Rama name is the most lovable thing for Hanuman.

Serving Lord Rama is the most delightful duty of Hanuman.

Hanuman never wanted Moksha, but always wanted devotion of Lord Rama.

Vidura was a great devotee of Lord Krishna.

Vidura never expected any type of wealth from Lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna went to Vidura home during the sandhana (negotiation) instead of Bhishma, Duryodhana, etc. home.

And many more…

Now, let us take the above with examples to understand about devotion (bhakti):

1. Shabari Devi: Shabari Devi during Treta Yuga was waiting for Sri Rama Chandra Prabhu since many many years. And he indeed came to meet her.

Why Shabari was wanting to meet Sri Rama?

Because she was fully attracted towards Sri Rama. For her, Sri Rama was everything.

She was not wanting her husband, she was not wanting her children, she was not wanting anybody other then Sri Rama.

For Shabari Devi, everyday was utsava / festival day. She was waiting that, this day my Sri Rama will come, that day Sri Rama will come,

yesterday would had been some hectic day for Sri Rama and that’s why Sri Rama will definitely come today.

That is was the bhakti of Shabari Devi. Her deha / body, aatma, every anu / cells etc were chanting Sri Rama’s names and She was always welcoming Sri Rama.

She never ever was low in confidence or was never ever even got a thought that Sri Rama would never come.

NO. NEVER. She never got these types of thoughts even in her dreams.

She was knowing only Sri Rama can give her mukti / moksha / freedom. She was knowing Lord Sri Rama is the real Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu), Ishvara, Parameshwara, Paramatma, Parabrahma.

She was aware about many gunas / qualities of Sri Rama. She was knowing svayam Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu) is in the form of Sri Rama.

She was very much aware of all these things about Sri Rama Chandra Prabhu.

If she was not sure that Sri Rama is not the real Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu), she would never had been attracted towards Sri Rama.

Indeed she was very much knowing that Sri Rama is svayam Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu) and he would one day or the other would definitely come to meet her.

That’s why she was waiting, waiting, waiting…

And we all know the karunaalu / kind hearted Sri Rama indeed came to meet Shabari Devi.

To have bhakti, we must be aware and we must have that gnana (gyan) / knowledge about Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu). Only gnana (gyan) / knowledge can give us the way towards bhakti.

2. King Muchukunda : He was one of the greatest Maharaja (Emperor) of the Suryavansh, that is, of Ikshvaku vansh.

After fighting against Rakshasas, Muchukunda Maharaja was tired and was wanting a long rest / break.

And thus the Devatas given him aashirvaada (blessings) that he can take a long rest / break and stay in a cave and anybody who disturbs his sleep would turn into ashes.

In the Dvapara Yuga, Sri Krishna indeed came to make uddhaara / as savior of Muchukunda Maharaja.

Muchukunda Maharaja was aware that in the Dvapara Yuga, Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu) will be taking the birth as Sri Krishna.

And Muchukunda Maharaja was very much knowing about the gunas / qualities of Lord Sri Krishna Paramaatma.

Muchukunda Maharaja was aware that Sri Krishna is svayam Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu).

He was very much aware that Sri Krishna was the only savior of these unlimited brahmaanda / universes.

Thus after knowing all these points, Muchukunda Maharaja was attracted towards Sri Krishna.

Thus again, to have bhakti towards Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu), we must be aware of the gunas / qualities of Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu), otherwise how can we be attracted towards anybody.

3. Hanuman: Who doesn’t know about Hanuman.

He is the greatest bhakta / devotee of Lord Sri Rama / Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu) after Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi / Sri Sita Devi.

Hanuman is known as “Mukhya Prana Deva”, means the main devata / deity of Vayu (air).

This again means Hanuman is svayam Sri Vayu Deva.

Hanuman, just this name is enough for us to get Sri Rama. If we chant Hanuman’s one or more names, we will definitely be able to see svayam Sri Rama.

Who doesn’t know the bhakti of Hanuman towards Sri Rama Chandra Prabhu. Who doesn’t know that what all sevas Hanuman did for Sri Rama.

But why did Hanuman did all the seva for Sri Rama, because Hanuman is very much aware that Sri Rama is svayam Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu).

Sri Rama is the only savior of everybody. Lord Sri Rama is the only Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu), Lord Sri Rama is the only one who can give mukti / moksha / freedom to everyone.

Hanuman knows that Lord Sri Rama is svayam Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu), Sri Rama is svayam Sri Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu),

Sri Rama is the only mukti pradaata (one who gives the mukti), Hanuman knows many many many things about Sri Rama.

Thus Hanuman was attracted towards Sri Rama. Without gnana (gyan) / knowledge, how can even Hanuman can understand that Sri Rama is svayam Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu).

Gnana (gyan) / knowledge is very much required to get bhakti. Without gnana (gyan), we are like shoonya / zero.

4. Vidura: In Samskruta / Sanskrit Vidura means someone who is having the vidya / education.

Vidura was the avatar of svayam Yama Dharma (Yudhisthira was also the avatar of Yama Dharma).

Vidura been the avatar of Yama Dharma, he was very much aware that Lord Sri Krishna is svayam Lord Sri Hari (Lord Sri Vishnu).

Just before, the Mahabharata / Kurukshetra war, Lord Sri Krishna comes to do sandhaana / negotiation, so that this war can be avoided.

Sri Krishna tells Duryodhana to give five grama / villages to Pancha Pandava.

But Duryodhana tells Sri Krishna that he can’t give even the place of pin point to Pancha Pandava.

After this sandhaana / negotiation Dhrutarashtra, Gandhari, Dronacharya, Bhishma, Duryodhana, Karna, etc etc etc all invite Sri Krishna to stay in their houses.

But Sri Krishna tells he want to stay in Vidura’s house. Sri Krishna always love his real bhaktas. Sri Krishna loves his bhaktas then anybody.

But why did Sri Krishna went to Vidura’s house instead of big / royal mahals of others?

Because Vidura knows that Sri Krishna is svayam Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu), Vidura knows the different gunas / qualities of Lord Sri Krishna and thus Vidura was a great bhakta of Sri Krishna.

For these reasons of been a great bhakta, Sri Krishna chose to stay at Vidura’s house.

Thus without gnana (gyan) / knowledge one can’t attain the stage of bhakti.
