Just before going to “Bhima information (story, facts, secrets, greatness, devotee of Krishna) | What is Bhima famous for? | What is the character of Bhima? | Which god Bhima was born from? | When was Bhima born? | Who is son of Bheem“, let us know a brief, basic and very important information.

Bhima wives names are : Hidimbi, Draupadi and Valandhara. But, as per Moola Mahabharata Bhima marries another 28 sisters of Lord Sri Krishna. Bhima parents names are : King Pandu and Kunti (With the blessings of Lord Sri Vayu Deva.)

Position of Bhima : He is Supreme only after Lord Sri Krishna (Vishnu avatar), Goddess Rukmini (Lakshmi avatar) and Goddess Satyabhama (Lakshmi avatar). Bhima weapon name is : Bhima’s gada (mace) name is Vrigodharam. Thus he is also called as Vrigodhara.

How Bhima is related to Lord Krishna : King Shurasena and Queen Marisha’s children were Vasudeva [Lord Krishna’s father Vasudeva (वसुदेव)], Samudravijaya (son) and Pritha (Also called as Kunti) (daughter).

Thus both Vasudeva (वसुदेव) and Kunti were brother and sister in relation. Consequently, Lord Krishna is a maternal cousin of Bhima.

Bhima different names are as given below:

Vrikodara (वृकोदर) : Bhima had a wolf bellied and had thumb-sized fire in his stomach) and thus he is known as Vrikodara. In Sanskrit Vrikodara = Vriko + Udara = Wolf bellied and Thumb-sized fire + Stomach.

Jarasandhajit (जरासन्धजित्) : Bhima is someone who won over Jarasandha easily (with highest ease). Jarasandha was a prominent Shaiva and Bhima was great Vaishnava. Lord Krishna wanted to show the real devotee of himself (Krishna / Vishnu) and thus Bhima killed Jarasandha with highest ease.

Hidimbabhid (हिडिम्बभिद्) : Bhima is the one who pierced Hidimba the demon. Hidimba (हिडिम्ब / hiḍimba) had a sister called Hidimbaa (हिडिम्बा / hiḍimbā). Bhima married this demoness Hidimbaa (हिडिम्बा / hiḍimbā) after killing the demon Hidimba (हिडिम्ब / hiḍimba).

Kichakajit (कीचकजित्) : Bhima is someone who defeated Kichaka very highest ease and also killed him instantly. After killing Kichaka, Bhima also killed thousands of brothers of Kichaka. In Sanskrit Kichakajit = Kichaka + Ajit = Kichaka + Won over.

Jihmayodhin (जिह्मयोधिन्) : Bhima was a true Vaishnava and a great devotee of Lord Sri Krishna, and also prominent follower of Sanatana Dharma. He who always ready fight against falsehood and Adharma. Thus Bhima got the name Jihmayodhin.

Ballava (बल्लव) : During the Pandavas exile period they stayed in King Virat’s city in the 13th year (Incognito exile / Agyatvas). Here, Bhima was called as Ballava (A Cook). Bhima chose to be a cook as he was not at all eating food which is prepared by others.

Bhima avatar of which God : He is an avatar of Lord Sri Vayu Deva. His first avatar is Hanuman (Treya Yuga), second is Bhima (Dwarapa Yuga) and third is Sri Madhwacharya Ji (Kali Yuga). | Bhima weapons : Most favorite is gada (mace). But he was expert in almost all the weapons including archery. |

Parents of Bhima : King Pandu (father) and Kunti (Pritha) Devi (mother). | Bhima brothers : Karna, Yudhishthira, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva. | Bhima wives : Hidimbi, Draupadi and Valandhara. He had also married 27 sisters of Lord Sri Krishna. |

Children of Bhima : Ghatotkacha (through Hidimbi), Sutasoma (through Draupadi), Sarvaga (through Valandhara) and others. | Meaning of Bhima is : Bhima means bhayankara, means one who is fearless, one who is having awesome body, one who is having no fear against anybody.

Also Bhima means very Balavan (Balvan), means very powerful (both physically and mentally). Bhima used to be so terrific that even 1000 elephants were looking as mere ants in front of Bhima.

Bhima is so powerful that he used to easily lift a huge mountain without any hardships. Bhima was having a great body which was not able to be destroyed even by greatest warriors on this earth.

With just one roar, even many many wild animals used to hide in the caves and were not coming out of the caves for weeks together. Bhima was so powerful that he used to pull out the largest of the trees on the earth without any hardships.

Usually Bhima has been misrepresented nowadays (including on the television series, movies etc.) But the greatness of Bhima can’t be explained so easily. But still I will try to add few more great points of Bhima

List of Bhima information (facts) (secrets) (greatness) is as given below:

1. Among the Pandavas he used to be the greatest gnani / gyani / knowledgeable person. 2. He used to be highly powerful, righteous, handsome, intelligent etc. 3. In Mahabharata he was the main hero after Lord Sri Krishna.

4. Someone who knows about great Bhima may be knowing this: When Bhima was still a baby he fell on a huge mountain called ‘shata-shringa‘ and this huge mountain broke into thousands of very small pieces. This was the greatness of Bhima.

5. Bhima was following Lord Sri Krishna that other Pandavas were never ever been able to follow his foot steps. Bhima never ever went against Lord Sri Krishna’s words or wishes in his whole life. What ever Lord Sri Krishna used to tell to Bhima, Bhima used to accept like none other. Bhima used to oblige each and every word of Lord Sri Krishna.

6. During the Kurukshetra yuddha / war, when Bhima used to roar, all the animals over there used to be so frightened that many of the animals used to die just hearing the roar of the GREAT BHIMA.

7. During the ‘lakshagriha’ / wax palace time, the minister who tried to set fire the palace was never able to set fire the palace as Bhima was not at all sleeping. Earlier the plan was to set fire the whole palace when all the pancha Pandavas were asleep.

8. But this never happened as Bhima never slept and thus the minister went ahead and set afire when Bhima was still awoke – As said above don’t go with the television show series story, rather try to get the information from the correct Guru about our GREAT SANATANA DHARMA.

9. During the Kurukshetra war, Bhima alone killed shasti akshouhini sena (six akshouhini army) among the total eleven akshouhini sena

10. Many of us know that Yudhisthira accepted the exile in the forest after the game of dice. But Bhima never ever accepted this and was always waiting for the start of the war.

11. Also we know that Arjuna was reluctant in fighting the war against the Kauravas, but Bhima was always ready to fight against the evil Kauravas as per the wishes of Lord Sri Krishna.

12. In the Kurukshetra war, Bhima killed most of the Duryodhana’s (Kaliyuga’s Kali) followers as per the wishes of Lord Sri Krishna.

13. Apart from these people, Bhima also killed unlimited number of Lord Sri Krishna’s enemies including Bakasura, Jarasandha, Keechaka, Kirmara, Hidimba, Manimantha and others. 14. Bhima was the first to marry among the mighty Pandavas. Even though Yudhisthira was the eldest in the age.

But since Sri Veda Vyasa Deva (he is also avatar of Sri Hari) ordered Bhima to get marry, Bhima without any reluctancy married Hidimbi (Hidimba).

15. In Mahabharata, Karna was defeated by Bhima on several occasions (this has been not at all discussed on any media until today including television series). 16. Bhima alone killed all the 100 Kauravas single handedly.

17. Even though Duryodhana was the greatest enemy of Bhima, Duryodhana gives one and only compliment to Bhima is his whole life. 18. The compliment is that Duryodhana names “Bhima, Balarama, Keechaka and Shalya as the best warriors on the earth”.

The most interesting point to be noted here is that Duryodhana names “Bhima” as the first and greatest warrior on this earth.

19. While Bhima was killing Dushasana, Bhima chanted the “Manyu sukta” of Bhagavan Sri Lakshmi Naarasimha svamy which is very dearer to Lord Sri Krishna.

20. Even though in age wise Bhima was the second of the GREAT Pandavas, during the dice game when Yudhisthira plays this game, Bhima orders Arjuna to burn the hands of Yudhisthira. But Arjuna never does this and says that “he can’t do this to his elders”.

But Bhima says that even though he is younger to Yudhisthira, just mentioning the words to burn the hands are enough to give punishment to Yudhisthira by his younger brother (Bhima).

21. Bhima is the only person who raises the voice during the game of dice in the initial part of the game itself. 22. The shankha / conch of Bhima was called as Paundra Khadga

Bhima was the svayam avatar of the Devata / Demigod Lord Sri Vayu Deva. We all know without Vayu / air nobody can live on this earth. Also we should note that Bhima and Hanuman are one and the same as both are the avatars of Sri Vayu Deva.

Sri Vayu Deva during the Tretayuga took birth as Sri Hanuman and served Sri Rama, and during the Dvapara Yuga, Lord Sri Vaayu Deva took birth as Sri Bhima Deva to serve Lord Sri Krishna.

Lord Sri Vayu Deva in his both the avatars never ever went against the words of Lord Sri Rama / Lord Sri Krishna / Lord Sri Hari / Lord Sri Vishnu. Third avatar is of Sri Madhvadharya Ji in Kali Yuga.

Bhimasena strictly followed Bhagavata dharma (teachings of Lord Sri Krishna) in all his activities:

This is illustrated by a few instances in this post. Bhima learnt all astras better than all others. However, he never used them. To use the astras one has to appeal to respective Devatas / deities. The use is also for achieving certain results. Both these are against Bhagavata dharma.

Bhima never worshipped any other deity than the sarvottama / supreme Bhagavan Sri Hari (He also worships Sri Maha Lakshmi Devi as She is the consort of Sri Hari and she is a real Vaishnava). He never opposed Bhagavan Sri Hari / Krishna. He never opposed the devotees of Sri Hari

Bhima was never friendly for those who were not devotees of Sri Krishna (Vishnu). He never doubted Sri Hari-Sarvotamma (Supreme) or Bhagavata dharma. He did not listen to the censure of Sri Hari. He prevented such a talk with everybody.

Bhima never used his knowledge and learning for his livelihood or survival. (That is why he did not reply to Lord Yama who had appeared in the form of Yaksha in Yaksha Prashna context and also when he was caught by Nahusha in the form of snake).

He pacified the astra of Ashvatathama and Alambusa as per Bhagavan’s instructions. Draupadi Devi also strictly followed Bhima in respect of Bhagavata Dharma. She never opposed Lord Sri Krishna any form.

Both Bhima and Draupadi Devi put up with the insult of stripping Draupadi Devi’s garments by Dusshasana (Dushasana) as they realized the intention of Lord Sri Krishna to provide the garments effortlessly.

Draupadi Devi accepting the offer of Dhritarastra to release the Pandavas was not against Bhagavata dharma since the whole act of dice-play was Adharma.

Violation of Bhagavata dharma by others – It is also noted in this context as to how others violated Bhagavata dharma in some way or the other. Balarama was displeased with Lord Sri Krishna in connection with syamantakamani.

Arjuna also boasted that he is not as weak as Balarama or Lord Sri Krishna and he could rescue the children of a Brahmin. Pradyumna, Sambha, Aniruddha etc. opposed the marriage of Subhadra with Arjuna against the wishes of Lord Sri Krishna.

Nakula asked for contribution from Lord Sri Krishna for the Rajasuya sacrifice of Yudhistira. Bhishma rejected the suggestion of Parashurama (an avatara of Sri Hari) to marry Amba. Devaki and Vasudeva considered Lord Sri Krishna as ordinary human being.

Drona, Karna, Ashvatthama, Kripa also desired to eliminate Lord Sri Krishna. From this it is clear that except Sri Lakshmi Devi (Sri Rukmini Devi), Sri Vayu Deva (Sri Bhimasena) and Bharati Devi (Sri Draupadi Devi) all others have entertained doubts about the Sarvottamatva (Supreme) of Sri Hari.

Here Sri Vayu Deva stands for all Ruju (ऋजु) yogis and Bharati Devi stands for their wives. Sri Maha Lakshmi Devi, Sri Vayu Deva and Bharati are known as Parashuklatraya.

Presentation of the skill in Astravidya (Science of using weapons) – Dronacharya arranged a contest for presentation of the skill of wielding weapons by his disciples. Ashvatthama and Arjuna excelled all others. Karna also arrived at the place and showed his skill.

Kunti did not reveal the fact that Karna was her son. Arjuna invited Karna for a contest. However Bhima prevented him by indicating that Karna was not a Kshatriya. To indicate this he gave a rein to Karna to suggest that he was Suta (Chariot driver).

At this Duryodhana coronated Karna to give the status of a King. Karna’s father (foster) Adhiratha arrived. Karna prostrated at his feet. (Karna’s foster mother name is Radha.)

The fight between Bhima and Duryodhana – Then Bhima (Avatar of Sri Vayu Deva) and Duryodhana (He is the form of Kali of Kali Yuga, means he is Kali by himself) started wielding the mace.

The deities, men and demons were divided in two groups supporting Bhima and Duryodhana respectively. Drona intervened through Ashvatthama and asked them to withdraw.

Drupada offers half of Kingdom to Drona – Drona asked the Kauravas and Pandavas to arrest Drupada and bring him as Gurudakshina to him. Both of them went to the city of Panchala. Kauravas rushed into the city with Karna.

The Pandavas remained outside. Drupada pounced on Kauravas with his army. The citizens also threw stones and sticks at them. (Drupada had a boon that within one yojana around his city he would be invincible).

The Kauravas ran out. Bhima and Arjuna attacked Drupada’s army. Drupada with his two sons Yudhamanyu and Uttaranauja fought the battle. Satyajuta, Shikandi, Janamejaya also joined the battle. Ultimately, Arjuna arrested Drupada. Drupada offered half of his kingdom to Drona. However, Drona did not actually take it.

Birth of Draupadi Devi – Drupada undertook a sacrifice to get a son who could kill Drona and a daughter to be given to Arjuna. He invited two learned Brahmanas, gave them ten crores of cows and arranged the sacrifice.

At the close of the sacrifice his queen did not come to receive the Havis Shesha (part of the Yagna). The priests became angry and pored it into the sacrificial fire. Immediately Agni came out as Drupada’s son. He was named as Dhristadhyumna as he was bold and brilliant.

From the sacrificial alter Bharati Devi (consort of Sri Vayu Deva) came as Draupadi Devi. She is the amalgamation of Sri Bharati Devi, Sri Parvati Devi, Sri Sachi Devi, Sri Shyamala Devi, and Sri Usha Devi.

Lord Sri Krishna Birth : He is unborn. But as a pastime he takes the avatar (not birth) on Shrimukha Samvatsara, Shravana month, Dark half (Krishna Paksha), 8th day (Ashtami Tithi), just after midnight in Taurus Lagna (Vrishabha Rashi). He is avatar of Lord Sri Vishnu. There is no difference between Lord Vishnu and Krishna avatar.

Duryodhana Birth : Just one day after the mighty Bhima’s birth Duryodhana was born. From that day onwards everyday the rest of the 99 Kauravas (boys) and their only sister were born. Similarly, Hidimba, Bakasura and Kichaka were born in the same period between Magha and Swati Stars (Nakshatras).

Duryodhana’s Death : He lost the battle against the mighty Bhima on Margashirsha month, New Moon Day (Amavasya Tithi) / Pausha Bright half (Shukla Paksha) in the evening. He died the next morning on the Bright half (Shukla Paksha), 1st Day (Pratipada Tithi).

Yudhishthira became Yuvaraja (Crowned Prince) : Yudhishthira became Crowned Prince (Yuvaraja) of Hastinapura (Hastinavati) on Shubhakrit Samvatsara, Ashwayuja month, Bright half (Shukla Paksha), 10th day (Dashami Tithi) when he was 31 years, 0 month and 5 days old.

Yudhishthira became King of Hastinapura : Yudhishthira was crowned as the King of Hastinapura (Hastinavati) on Shubhakrit Samvatsara, Pausha month, Full Moon Day (Purnima). Yudhishthira was 91 year, 3 months and 10 days old when he became the King (Samrat / Chakravartin / Emperor) of the whole world.

Yudhishthira ruled for the whole world for 36 years, 2 months and 15 days. From Shubhakrit Samvatsara, Pushya month, Full Moon Day (Purnima Tithi) to Bahudhanya Samvatsara, Pushya month, Full Moon Day (Purnima Tithi). It was 36 years, 2 months and 15 days.

It was Pramadi Samvatsara, Bright half (Shukla Paksha), 1st Day (Pratipada Tithi) Lord Shri Krishna finished his avatar on this earth, that is, on B.C 3102-2-20 at 2-27-30 P.M. Originally Kali Yuga started when Duryodhana died.

Seven days later, on Bright half (Shukla Paksha), 7th Day (Saptami Titihi), whole of the Dwarka city was submerged in the Ocean. Saptarishis (Seven Sages) were in Magha Star (Nakshatra).

Yudhishthira Shaka started from his coronation day, that is, Lord Sri Krishna finished his Avatar in Yudhishthira Shaka. Total there were 36 years, 2 months and 15 days in Yudhishthira Shaka.

Pandavas started for their Final journey after Yudhishthira Shaka on Pramadi Samvatsara, Ashwayuja month, Bright half (Shukla Paksha), 12th Day (Dwadashi Tithi). At that time, Yudhishthira was aged 128 years, 0 month and 6 days. Parikshit was 36 years old at that time, and he (Parikshit) was coronated on the same day at Hastinapur (Hastinavati).

King Parikshit ruled the whole world for 60 years. After he got the curse from Sage Shringi (son of Sage Shamika), King Parikshit coronated his 25 year old son Janamejaya, and died after hearing the Srimad Bhagavatam under Sage Shuka Muni (Shukacharya – son of Lord Sri Vedavyasa).

King Parikshit is believed to be an avatar (reincarnation) of Satya (Krita) Yuga, the personified first Yuga as per Hindu Sanatana Dharma. Shakuni the maternal uncle of Duryodhana is an avatar of Dvapara Yuga (In Sanskrit Dvapara means uncertainty, doubt). Duryadhana is an avatar of Kali Yuga’s Kali.

The presence of five women in one body – The presence of Parvati, Sachi, Shyamala and Usha with Bharati in the same body has a background. These four got into one body and moved before Brahma as a matter of fun.

Brahma became angry and cursed them to be born as human beings thrice as they cheated him thrice being in one body.

To overcome the hardship of contact with some man other than their husbands during these births – Parvati, Sachi, Shyamala, Usha approached Bharati Devi also to be born with them, so that nobody would dare to touch them and thus all the five were reborn.

In the first birth these were born as daughter of Brahmana. During this birth all the four (Parvati, Sachi, Shyamala and Usha) performed penance to Lord Shiva and Sri Bharati Devi performed the same to Bhagavan Sri Maha Vishnu who was present inside Lord Shiva.

They were told by Shiva and Vishnu respectively in one of their human births they will live with their husbands. Later they were born as Nalanandini (again amalgamation of all above said five Devi) and Indrasena (here also amalgamation of all the above said Devis).

Nalanandini was the wife of Mudgala, while Indrasena was the wife of his son Maudgalya. In these two births also they were in one body. Finally, all the above said Devi were reborn as Draupadi Devi. It is only in this birth that they met their husbands.

When Lord Sri Krishna learnt that Drupada was arrested, he sent Kratavarma to congratulate Pandavas. Finding that Lord Sri Krishna had great affection for Pandavas, the deities born as Kings and Kshatriyas became the allies of Pandavas.

Dhritarashtra, with great affection crowned Yudhishtira as the prince. The Bhima and arjuna conquered the kings in all directions and made them to surrender. Dhritarashtra, Bhishma, Drona and all others were surprised at the extraordinary feats performed by Bhima and Arjuna.
