Just before going to “Human body parts English names derived (originated) from Sanskrit“, let us have some brief information.

Each and every name and words on this earth is either directly of indirectly taken from Sanskrit / Samskruta. This means, all the words around the world are mispronounced words from the Sanskrit / Samskruta bhasha (language).

You may be wondering about this. Let us understand how? For example, many cities in India has changed it’s original names because of Europeans came to India and they have changed the names of our cities, as they were not able to pronounce it properly.

For example ‘Vishakapattanam’ has became ‘Vizag’, ‘Tiruvanantapuram’ has become ‘Trivandrum’, ‘Bendakaluru’ has became ‘Bangalore’ & now it is called as ‘Bengaluru’, ‘Odakamandalam’ has become ‘Ooty’, ‘Mumbai’ had become ‘Bombay’ etc.

Now let us know, how the body parts of the humans which were originally the Sanksrit words has changed into different pronunciation / forms:

1. Brain: Buddhi. Also known as ‘bhrAntacitta’ (read as branta chitta). | 2. Ear: ‘karana / karna’. Ear is the short form of the word karna. | 3. Nose: Nasika | 4. Heart: Hrudaya or Hardya. | 5. Intestine: Antra (Antra has become ante or inte) |

6. Gland: ‘upagrantha’ (read as उपग्रन्थ). The second part of the Sanskrit word has become gland. | 7. Nerve: Naramandala. Again the long Sanskrit word has become short English word. | 8. Mouth: Mukha / Mukh |

9. Teeth / Dental: Danta | 10. Eyes: Aksha | 11. Chest: Vaksha / Vaksh. Vaksh has become chest. | 12. Hand: Hasta | 13. Navel: Nabhi | 14. Foot: Paada / Paad (Just like pithru has become father, here paa has become fa or foo). |

15. Finger: aGguli (अङ्गुली) (Here anguli = an + guli = fin + ger) | 16. Shoulder: Skandha (स्कन्ध) | 17. Nail: Nakha (नख) | 18. Skull: mastaka (ma + staka). Give importance to the second part of the Sanskrit word. staka has skull. |

19. Joints: joDana (जोड़ना) | 20. Fist: musti (मुष्टि). must (read as मुष्ट and as the English word must)) = fist | 21. Muscle: mamsapeshi (mAMsapezI – मांसपेशी) |

22. Jaw: jambhya (जम्भ्य). Remember Jambuvanta of the Ramayana period. His jaws was not as humans. | 23. Eyebrow: ‘aksha bhru’ (अक्ष भ्रू). | 24. Wrist: ‘praveSTa’ (प्रवेष्ट). pra + veSTa. Give importance to second part of the word ‘veSTa’. |

25. Ankle: aGghriskandha (अङ्घ्रिस्कन्ध) | 26. Vein: ‘vamshi’ (वंशी) | 27.

More words will be added to this on regular basis. Please visit after some time.

Similarly I have made a robust research and found out many words of different languages around the world are taken from Sanskrit / Samskruta itself. The link for that is as given below:
