Just before going to “List of 64 arts (Kalas / Vidyas / techniques) in Hinduism | 64 arts of Krishna (full details)“, let us have some brief information.

Who God has 64 Kalas : Lord Sri Krishna and all his different avatars has all the 64 Kalas.

Which Maharishi taught 64 arts to Lord Krishna : Sage (Maharishi) Sandipani taught Lord Sri Krishna all the 64 Kalas.

In which book 64 arts are mentioned (Which ancient text describes the 64 arts in detail) : Srimad Bhagavatam gives the details about all the 64 arts.

Even Lord Sri Krishna after killing Kamsa went to Sage (Maharishi) Sandipani ashrama (hermitage) to learn these Great 64 Vidyas (Kalas) (Arts) (Techniques).

But, we should remember that Bhagavan Sri Krishna doesn’t learns anything from anybody, but rather he shows us the way on how to learn? what all to learn? from whom to learn? when to learn? etc.

Lord Sri Krishna is svayam Bhagavan (God) and knows anything and everything. Thus doesn’t need anybody’s support or help.

Lord Sri Krishna is called as ‘swaraat’ (स्वराट्) (svarāṭ), this means, he is completely independent and free, and not at all dependent on anyone or anything in this unlimited Universes.

Lord Sri Krishna is known as ‘antaryami’, this means, he is inside everything and everybody. Lord Sri Krishna knows what he should give to someone and not.

Also Lord Sri Krishna is known as ‘aananda’ (Anand), this means, he is blissful and cheerful always. Lord Sri Krishna doesn’t want anybody to make him happy. Bhagavan Sri Krishna himself is known as ‘aananda’.

List of 64 arts (Kalas / Vidyas / techniques) in Hinduism are as given below:

1. संगीत गायन (saṅgīta gāyana) – Singing

2. संगीत वाद्य (saṅgīta vādya) – Playing musical instruments like flute etc.

3. आलेख्य (ālēkhya) – Mastery about drawing.

4. पुष्पास्तरण (puṣpāstaraṇa) – Spreading flowers in a beautiful way

5. उदकवाद्य (udakavādya) – Music Instruments underwater (Jalataranga).

6. शेखरकापीडयोजनं (śēkharakāpīḍayōjanaṁ) – Decoration (Alankara) of hair on head

7. नर्तन (nartana) – Knowledge about dance.

8. काव्यसमस्यापूरणं (ಕಾವ್ಯಸಮಸ್ಯಾಪೂರಣಂ) – When given a particular part of a shloka (one paada) – preparing the shloka to give full shlokabhipraya (meaning of the full shloka / verse).

9. निमित्तज्ञानं (nimittajñānaṁ) – Shakuna parichaya (Knowledge of omens or signs).

10. स्तंभीकरण, वशीकरण, गूहन, आकर्षण – (stambhīkaraṇa, vaśīkaraṇa, gūhana, ākarśaṇa) – These all are different attractive sport names.

a. स्तंभीकरण (stambhīkaraṇa) – To make someone to be held up in one single position.

b. वशीकरण (vaśīkaraṇa) – Bewitching someone.

c. गूहन (gūhana) – To make someone hide.

d. आकर्षण (ākarśaṇa) – To make someone to make attractive / appealing.

11. वैनयिकीनं विद्य (vainayikīnaṁ vidya) – Teaching of good behavior.

12. मणिरागाकार ज्ञान (maṇirāgākāra jñāna) – Identifying pearl’s different colors, group.

13. उदाकाघात (udākāghāta) – JalataaDana art (Beating the water knowledge).

14. पद्मकृति (padmakr̥ti) – Drawing Padmakruti (To draw Padma form) in front of pooja hall in colored rice and flowers.

15. चलितकयोगा (calitakayōgā) – Winning capability in gambling through trick and / or confusing.

16. व्याया मिकिनाम् च विद्यानाम् विज्ञानं (vyāyāmikinām ca vidyānām vijñānaṁ) – Yogasana shastra (Lesson on Yogasana).

17. पानकरसरागासवयोजन (pānakarasarāgāsavayōjana) – Preparing panaka like juice, etc.

18. मणिभूमिका कर्म (maṇibhūmikā karma) – Designing with valuable jewels and pearls.

19. विशेषक चेद्यम् (viśēṣaka cedyam) – Tilaka rachana (Drawing tilaka).

20. नेपत्य प्रयोग (nēpatya prayōga) – Disguising someone with dress.

21. दूर्वाचक योग (durvācaka yōga) – Using harsh (difficult) words for arguments and / or for fun.

22. वैजयिकीनाम् विद्या (vaijayikīnām vidyā) – Winning over opponents in any type of situation(s).

23. वीण, डमरुक वाद्य (vīṇa, ḍamaruka vādya) – Playing Veena, Damaruka, etc.

24. ऐंद्रजाल-कुचुमारयोग (aindrajāla- kucumārayōga) – Aindrajala vidya (knowledge) and correcting the loss in the body.

25. शयन रचनम् (śayana racanam) – Decoration of bed.

26. विचित्र शाखयुष भक्ष्य विकरक क्रिया (ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ಶಾಖಯೂಷ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯ ವಿಕರಕ ಕ್ರಿಯಾ) – Preparing different tasty food for consuming.

27. चित्रयोग (citrayōga) – A yoga which makes our senses inactive.

28. अभिधन कोश (abhidhana kōśa) – Well versed in dictionary’s all words, Ekakshara kosha (Knowledge about single letter words), medina, etc.

29. कर्णपत्रभांग (karṇapatrabhaṅga) – Making ornaments for ears (As earrings).

30. मेष, कुक्कुट, लावकयुद्धविधि (mēṣa, kukkuṭa, lāvakayud’dhavidhi) – Learning animal and birds way of living, including eating habits, flying, running, roaring or chirping, etc.

31. धारणमातृक (dhāraṇamātr̥ka) – Ashtavadhana (8 types), shatavadhana (10 types) of knowledge.

32. माल्यग्रथनकल्पा (mālyagrathanakalpā) – Creating different flower types.

33. पट्टिका वेत्रवान विकल्प (paṭṭikāvētravāna vikalpa) – Preparing different vessels, clothing, weaving, etc.

34. वस्त्रालंकार (vastrālaṅkāra) – Designing of variety of clothes.

35. बलक्रीडनकानि (balakrīḍanakāni) – Knowledge about children’s games.

36. गंध युक्ति (gandha yukti) – सुगंध द्रव्य रचना (sugandha dravya racanā) – Creating fragrance spreading liquid.

37. रूप्यरत्नपरीक्ष (rūpyaratna parīkṣā) – Examining Silver and other ornaments

38. सूचीवाणकर्म (sūcīvāṇakarma) – Tailoring knowledge.

39. भूषन योजन (bhūṣaṇa yōjana) – Knowledge about ornaments arranging and wearing.

40. मानसी (mānasī) – Locating items which is invisible through mind.

41. यंत्रमातृक ज्ञानं (yantramātr̥kā jñānaṁ) – Machine related knowledge.

42. क्रियाकल्प (kriyākalpa) – Knowledge about Planning.

43. अक्षर मुष्टिक कथनं (akṣara muṣṭikā kathanaṁ) – Revealing secret news through fingers.

44. वृक्षायुर्वेद योग (vr̥kṣāyurvēda yōga) – Developing / preparing medicine from medicinal plants.

45. द्योतविशेष (dyōtaviśēṣā) – Special knowledge of different Gambling games.

46. हस्तलाघव (hastalāghava) – Doing tricks using hand(s).

47. शुकशारिकप्रलापणं (śukaśārikapralāpaṇaṁ) – Learning knowledge about birds language.

48. सूत्रक्रीड (sūtrakrīḍa) – Knowledge about thread game(s).

49. काव्यक्रिय (kāvyakriya) – Creating love making poem(s) – श्रृंगार काव्य रचन (śr̥ṅgāra kāvya racana).

50. म्लेन्चितविकल्पा (mlēncitavikalpā) – Informing confidential news through secret words.

51. पुस्तक वाचनम् (pustaka vācanam) – Reading books based on respective “rasa prayoga” (Using correct words, correct way of pronunciation, at correct time etc.).

52. वस्त्रगोपनानि (vastragōpanāni) – Knowledge about protecting cloths from insects.

53. नाटकख्यायिकादर्शनं (nāṭakākhyāyikā darśanaṁ) – Knowledge about informing the situation through acting.

54. छंदोज्ञानं (chandōjñānānaṁ) – Knowledge about prosody (chandass) in छंदशास्त्र (chandaśāstra).

55. प्रतिमाल (pratimāla) – This game is similar to the modern day antakshari game.

56. सम्पाठ्यं (sampāṭhyaṁ) – Either reading alone or with one or more partner.

57. तक्षकर्माणि (takṣakarmāṇi) – Knowledge about carpentry work(s).

58. देशभाषविज्ञान (dēśabhāṣā vijñāna) – Knowledge about different regional languages.

59. वास्तुविद्या (vāstuvidyā) – House and / or other architectural knowledge.

60. प्रहेलिका (prahēlika) – Knowledge about Puzzle.

61. पुष्पशकटिका (puṣpaśakaṭikā) – Preparing different items and designs from variety of flowers.

62. तक्षणम् (takṣaṇam) – Knowledge about toy making.

63. धातुवाद (dhātuvāda) – Mastery about examining stones, pearls, soil, etc. (Knowledge about metallurgy).

64. केशमर्दन (kēśamardana) – Right knowledge about cleaning the hair.
