Just before going to “List of Hanuman names with meaning (correct & full information)“, let us have some brief information.

We should always remember that before doing pooja / worship of Lord Sri Hanuman, we need to do pooja / worship of Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sri Sita Devi.

Without which Hanuman will not accept our pooja / worship. For Hanuman first most important Bhagavan (God) is Lord Sri Rama and then it is Goddess Sri Sita Devi.

Thus chanting Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sri Sita Devi names will make Hanuman happy and in-turn Hanuman will automatically bless us.

List of Hanuman names with meaning are as given below:

1. Hanuman – He is the one who is having his jaws like ‘hanu’. Hanu = jaws, ‘man’ or manta = a divine person. Means, a person whose jaws are like hanu (very strong). In Sanskrit ‘hanu’ means jaws.

2. Anjaneya – He is the son of the Mother Anjana Devi. Anjaneya = Anjana + neya. Anjana means Mother Anjana Devi and neya means son (Anjana’s son).

3. Kesarinandana – He is the son of the Kesari (father). Kesarinandana = Kesari + nandana. Kesari means Hanuman’s father Kesari and nandana means son (Kesari’s son is Hanuman).

4. Vayuputra He is the son of the Lord Sri Vayu Deva (Also called as Sri Mukhya Prana Deva). Vayu = Lord Sri Vayu Deva and putra means son (He is the son of Lord Sri Vayu Deva).

5. Maruti – He is from the ‘Marut loka’ (A place called Marut / मरुत्). In Sanskrit Marut or Maruta means ‘God of wind’.

6. Vajranga Bali / Bajranga Bali – He is the third most strongest person, that is, after Lord Sri Rama (Vishnu) and Goddess Sri Sita Deva (Lakshmi Devi), he is the most strongest both mentally and physically.

Hanuman is the one who has body (anga) as hard or as strong as vajra (diamond). Bajranga Bali is the corrupt version of the original name Vajranga Bali.

Vajranga Bali = Vajra + Anga + Bali = Diamond + Body + Holder. He holds a body which is as strong as diamond.

7. Sankata Mochana – He is the remover of all dangers, hardships, or hurdles from his devotees. Here sankata means hardships, dangers, hurdles etc. and mochana means remover.

8. Kapeeshwara He is the Isha (God) of all the Kapees (Monkeys). Here Kapees means the family of creatures related to monkeys and Isha means head (God). He is the head (God) among all the Kapees.

9. Rama Doota After Goddess Sri Sita Devi (Lakshmi Devi), he is the biggest doota (server, messenger etc.) of Lord Sri Rama (Vishnu).

10. Mahakaya He is the most gigantic jeevatma (living being). Only two are more gigantic than him, that is, Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sita Devi. Here Mahakaya = Maha + kaya = biggest + body (living being).

11. Mahavira – Again is the most powerful after Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sita Devi. He is the most valiant after Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sri Sita Devi.

12. Mahabala / Mahabali Same with little different meaning. He is the strongest after Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sri Sita Devi. Mahabali = Maha + bali = Greatest + strongest. He is the most greatest and strongest after Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sita Devi.

13. Panchavaktra He is having five faces. That is, Hayagriva (Horse face), Narasimha (Lion face), Garuda (Divine Eagle), Varaha (Boar face) and his own face of Hanuman.

These five faces are different than the Lord Sri Vishnu faces. These are not same faces as Lord Sri Vishnu avatars.

14. Mukhya Prana Deva He is the “Primordial Life Giver” (more prominent amongst followers of Dvaita, such as Madhwas).

15. Vayu Deva He himself is Lord Sri Vayu Deva. He is an avatar of Lord Sri Vayu Deva. Many people think Hanuman is an avatar of Lord Sri Rudra Deva (Lord Shiva). This is completely incorrect.

Nowhere it is written that Hanuman is the avatar of Lord Sri Rudra Deva. But in fact, it is written that Hanuman is an avatar of Lord Sri Vayu Deva (Maruta).

Only recently this propaganda is been done, which is completely incorrect. No original Shastras (divine Hindu Texts) says that Hanuman is an avatar of Lord Sri Rudra Deva.

16. Deenabandhave – Hanuman is the one who is always ready to help, support, protect etc. who is less blessed, but he / she should be a devotee of Lord Sri Sita Rama, to receive the blessings of Hanuman.

17. Sagarotaraka – Hanuman is the one who with highest ease easily leapt (crossed) the huge ocean. 

18. Kalanabha – He is the one who very comfortably organizes the time with Lord Sri Rama blessings. Kalanabha = Kaala + Nabha = Time + organizer.

19. Sarvarogahara – Our Hanuman is so divine, that he with no effort can easily cure any disease. Sarvarogahara = Sarva + Roga + Hara = All + Diseases + Destroyer.

20. Chiranjivi – He is blessed by directly Lord Sri Rama (Vishnu), so that he can live for very very long period. He is still alive and is living on earth in a place called ‘Kimpurusha Khanda’.

21. Sarvalokacharine – With the anugraha (blessings) of Lord Sri Rama, Hanuman can travel in the whole universe with highest ease. He can travel farther and faster than Lord Sri Garuda Raja (Lord Sri Vishnu mount).

22. Mahadhyuta – Hanuman is the highest radiant one and only Goddess Sri Sita Devi (Sri Lakshmi Devi) and Lord Sri Rama (Lord Sri Vishnu) are more radiant than Hanuman.

23. Pingalaksha – Hanuman is having pink eyes and thus he is known as Pingalaksha. Pingalaksha = Pingala + Aksha = Pink colord + Eyes.

24. Manojava – Maruti (Hanuman) is so great, that he is faster than anyone’s mind (Only Goddess Sri Sita Devi / Lakshmi Devi and Lord Sri Rama / Vishnu are more faster than Maruti / Hanuman).

25. Paravidya Parihara – Hanuman is too intelligent and he can very easily destroy the wisdom of his and Lord Sri Rama’s enemies.

26. Pavana Putra – Anjaneya is the son of Lord Sri Pavana Deva (Lord Sri Vayu Deva). Also, Hanuman himself is an avatar of Lord Sri Vayu Deva. Other avatars of Lord Sri Vayu Deva are Bhima and Sri Madhwacharya Ji.

27. Prasannatmane – Maruti (Hanuman) is the most cheerful. Only Goddess Sri Sita Devi and Lord Sri Rama are more cheerful than Maruti (Hanuman).

28. Rama Bhakta – Hanuman is the greatest devotee of Lord Sri Rama. Only Goddess Sri Sita Devi is more greater devotee of Lord Sri Rama than Hanuman.

29. Pragnya – Hanuman is the greatest scholar (He is equal to Lord Sri Brahma Deva, but not same as him – This means, both Lord Sri Brahma Deva and Hanuman have same qualities, but still both are two different Devatas (Demigods).

We should remember that Hanuman is the next Lord Sri Brahma Deva in the next Maha Kalpa. The present Lord Sri Brahma Deva’s total lifespan as per Satya Loka is 100 years.

Among these 100 years, the present Lord Sri Brahma Deva has passed his first 50 years, that is, his 51st year is running as per Satya Loka. After his 100 years, Lord Sri Hanuman will become next Lord Sri Brahma Deva.

Who is next Brahma Deva

30. Sarvamayavibhanjana (Sarva Maya Vibhanjana) – Maruti (Hanuman) easily destroys all the illusions.

E.g., When Maruti (Hanuman) was crossing the ocean in search of Goddess Sri Sita Devi, many illusions tried to abstract him. But none were able to win over Hanuman.

31. Mahabala Parikrama – Hanuman is too powerful and he can very easily travel anywhere in this universe with highest comfort.

32. Sanjeevananagahatre – Hanuman is the one who with no-effort lifted the huge mountain of Sajeevani (Dronagiri). This helped in curing Lakshmana’s snake poison which was caused due to the arrows of Indrajeeta (Meghanada) instantly.

33. Mahatmane – Anjaneya (Hanuman) is the most greatest. Only Goddess Sri Sita Devi and Lord Sri Rama are more greater than Anjaneya (Hanuman).

34. Shoora – Maruti (Hanuman) is the most bravest in the whole universe. Only Goddess Sri Sita Devi and Lord Sri Rama are more brave than Maruti (Hanuman).

35. Lokapujya – He is worshipped by one and all. But he worships both Goddess Sri Sita Devi and Lord Sri Rama.

36. Vagmine – Hanuman is the most greatest speaker of the universe. Only Goddess Sri Sita Devi and Lord Sri Rama are more greater speaker than Hanuman.

Vagmine = Vag (Vak) + Mine = Speak + Can speak. He is the best speaker as said in the earlier sentence.

37. Lankineebhanjana – Anjaneya (Hanuman) is the one who with highest ease and with just one punch destroyed the powers of the Lankini (Lanka’s demoness gatekeeper).

38. Vardhimainakapujita (Vardhi Mainaka Pujita) – Even a huge mountain like Mainaka worship our Hanuman.

39. Kanchanabha – Hanuman is having a golden splendor body color. Kanchanabha = Kancha + Nabha = Golden splendor + Body.

40. Vijitendriya – Anjaneya (Hanuman) has own over his all the ‘indriyas’ (Sensory organs). He doesn’t depend on the ‘indriyas’, but infact, indriyas depend on him.

41. Karagrahavimoktre – First of all he can’t be imprisoned by anyone. But by chance in some situation of Dharma if Hanuman is tied or imprisoned, he can easily break free from it.

(When Meghanada used ‘Brahmastra’ to capture Hanuman, because to respect ‘Brahmastra’ Hanuman himself accepted to be tied by ‘Brahmastra’. But later Hanuman easily broken that ‘Brahamastra’ and lit fire all over Lanka.)

42. Sarvadukhahara (Sarva Dukha Hara) – He is the one who removes all types of worries, anxiety, trouble, distress etc. very easily from his devotees.

43. Harimarkatamarkata – He is the Lord of all the monkeys. He is the Markata of all the Markatas (King among all the Monkeys).

44. Vajranakha – Hanuman is strong and similarly his nails (nakha) are also very strong.

45. Kalanemi Pramathana – Kalanemi was the son of Maricha. Ravana had instructed him to kill Hanuman, but it became inverse and Hanuman killed Kalanemi in the Lanka war and this name, means, Hanuman is the slayer of Kalanemi demon.

46. Marutatmaja – Hanuman is the son of Maruti (Sri Vayu Deva / Wind Demigod). He was born as his own son in the Treta Yuga to do seva (serve) of Lord Sri Rama and Goddess Sri Sita Devi.

47. Kapisenanayana (Kapi Sena Nayaka) – He is the head of the army of all the monkeys. Kapi + Sena + Nayaka = Monkey + army + head.

48. Kumarabrahmacharine (Kumara Brahmacharine) – He is Brahmachari (Unmarried) since his young age.

49. Gandharvavidyatatvangna (Gandharva Vidya Tatvangna) – Maruti (Hanuman) is the highly proficient in the art of celestial shastras (technology).

50. Chaturbhave – He is having four divine hands. Chaturbhave = Chatur + Bhave = Four + Hands.

51. Dhruta Vrata – Anjaneya always follows strict ‘Dharmacharana’ (Dharma works) and thus he is very loving to Lord Sri Rama.

52. Bhimasenasahayakrute (Bhimasena Sahaya Krute) – Hanuman is the one who helped Bhima. Both Hanuman and Bhima are the avatars of Lord Sri Vayu Deva. There is difference between them.

53. Daitya Karya Vidyataka – Maruti (Hanuman) can easily destroy all the demons ill-activities. Daitya + Karya + Vidyataka = Demons + works = destroyer.

54. Bala Bhima (बल भीम) – He is the most powerful one. Only Goddess Sri Sita Devi and Lord Sri Rama are more powerful than Maruti (Hanuman).

55. Daityakulantaka – Hanuman is the one who destroys all the ‘adharmi’ (doesn’t follow Dharma) demons with highest ease. Not only the demons, but whole of their lineage (Adharmi people) will be destroyed by Hanuman.

56. Vibhishana Priyakara – Anjaneya is very loving and regarded by Vibhishana. Vibhishana Priyakara = Vibhishana + Praiyakara = Vibhishana + Loving (respected).

57. Dheera – Hanuman is highly courageous, fearless, valiant, bold, daring, etc. In Sanskrit Dheera means highly courageous, etc.

58. Kaamaroopin – Here Kaama means, ‘as per will’. Maruti (Hanuman) can very easily change his form as per his will.

Hanuman can decrease his body to be like an atom and can easily increase his body so that he can easily swallow the whole universe.

59. Dashabhave – He is having up to 10 hands (With 5 faces of: Garuda – facing the west, Varaha – facing the north, Hayagriva – facing the sky, Narasimha – facing the south and the fifth the original hanuman, facing the east).

These faces of Hanuman are different from the different avatars of Lord Sri Vishnu.

60. Sugriva Sachiva – Maruti (Hanuman) is one of the prominent minister of Sugriva.

61. Bavishya Chaturana – Hanuman is too intelligent and he is completely aware of the future (Also, he is aware of the past and present also).

62. Pratapavat – Anjaneya (Hanuman) is the most gallant, valorous, courageous, dauntless, etc.

63. Akshahantre – He is the one who slayed Akshayakumara (Ravana’s youngest son) with highest ease.

64. Anjanagarbhasambhoota (Anjana Garbha Sambhoota) – Hanuman is the one who is born from the womb of Sri Anjana Devi. For this reason Hanuman is also known as Anjaneya.

65. Aashokavanikachetre (Aashoka Vanika Chetre) – Maruti (Hanuman) is the one who destroyed the Ashoka Vatika at Lanka.

More information about Lord Sri Hanuman is as given below:

Hanuman is the second most dearest to Lord Sri Vishnu (Rama) after Goddess Sri Sita Devi (Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi). He will be the next Lord Sri Brahma Deva in the next Maha Kalpa.

The present Lord Sri Brahma Deva has passed his 50 years and 51st year is running as per Satya Loka time frame.

After the present Lord Sri Brahma completes his 100 years, Lord Sri Hanuman will be the new Lord Sri Brahma Deva. Hanuman is an avatar of Lord Sri Vayu Deva or Lord Sri Mukhya Prana Deva.

The different avatars of Lord Sri Vayu Deva or Lord Sri Mukhya Prana Deva is as given below:

1. Hanuman | 2. Bhimasena (Bhima) | 3. Sri Madhvacharya Ji

The proof for the different avatars in given in this shloka, which appears in different Hindu granthas (texts):

प्रथमो हनुमान् नामा द्वितीयो भीम एव च | पूर्णप्रज्ञः तृतीयस्तु भगवत्कार्य साधकः ||

ಪ್ರಥಮೋ ಹನುಮಾನ್ ನಾಮಾ ದ್ವಿತೀಯೋ ಭೀಮ ಏವ ಚ | ಪೂರ್ಣಪ್ರಜ್ಞ: ತೃತಿಯಸ್ತು ಭಗವತ್ಕಾರ್ಯ ಸಾಧಕಃ ||

prathamō hanumān nāmā dvitīyō bhīma ēva ca | pūrṇaprajña: Tr̥tiyastu bhagavatkārya sādhakaḥ ||

The meaning of this shloka (hymn) is as given below : Lord Sri Vayu Deva / Lord Sri Mukhya Prana Deva takes the first avatar as Hanuman.

Second as Bhimasena (Bhima) and thirdly as Poornapragna (another name of Sri Madhvacharya Ji) and Lord Sri Vayu Deva takes these three avatars to complete the Lord Sri Hari (Vishnu) works as per the instructions given by svayam Lord Sri Hari (Vishnu).
