Just before going to “Why Lord Shiva cut Lord Brahma (fifth) head (correct information) | Lord Brahma fifth face (head) (Brahma Kapalam) information, facts“, let us know a brief, basic and very important information.

My dear friends, whatever we are leaning about the great Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism), we should always learn from a correct Guru.

This Guru must have come in the right Guru Parampara (Guru lineage). The ‘adi Guru‘ (grand first Guru) of this Guru Parampara should be Lord Sri Vishnu himself.

If we learn from a stupid or half-learnt person about Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism), we will only know the half-baked information and this will take us to disastrous path.

Lord Brahma Sri Deva is the son of Lord Sri Vishnu. From Lord Sri Vishnu’s nabhi (Divine navel) Lord Sri Brahma Deva takes birth.

Lord Sri Brahma Deva is the first son and is very much loving son of Lord Sri Vishnu.

As Lord Sri Brahma Deva is highly knowledgeable Devata (Demigod), Lord Sri Vishnu gives his own name of Brahma (Originally Brahma is the name of Lord Sri Vishnu) to Lord Brahma Deva.

(Brahma means highly knowledgeable, that is, this is Lord Sri Vishnu’s one of the unlimited names which is given to Lord Sri Brahma Deva).

Lord Sri Brahma Deva always chants and does the stotram of Lord Sri Vishnu. Lord Sri Brahma Deva always wants to gain more and more knowledge about Lord Sri Vishnu all the time.

Lord Sri Brahma Deva’s consort name is called as Goddess Sri Sarasvati Devi. Both Lord Sri Brahma Deva and Sri Sarasvati belongs to a group of Devatas (Demigods) called as Rujus.

Even Lord Sri Hanuman (Vayu Deva) also belongs to this group of Devatas (Demigods) called Rujus, as Lord Sri Hanuman is the next Lord Sri Brahma Deva of this universe.

First let us understand few very important backgrounds points regarding Lord Brahma Deva and Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva):

1. Lord Sri Brahma Deva is the pitru (father) of Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).

2. Lord Sri Brahma Deva’s yogyata (capability) is much higher than Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).

3. Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) is a big Sajjan (Sajjana).

4. Lord Sri Brahma Deva is jeevottama (Best among all the living beings).

5. Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) would never ever do anything which is not Dharma.

6. Lord Sri Brahma Deva is called Chartur Mukha Brahma Deva (means someone who has four faces / heads).

7. But on one special reason, Lord Sri Brahma Deva adds one more head to his four heads. That is, Lord Sri Brahma Deva becomes Pancha Mukha Brahma Deva (someone with five heads).

List of Lord Brahma fifth face (Brahma Kapalam) information, facts are as given below:

Demon Hayagrivasura (A demon with horse head) steals Vedas from Lord Sri Brahma Deva.

Lord Sri Vishnu takes avatar of Lord Sri Hayagriva (With horse face / head).

Lord Sri Hayagriva (With horse face / head) recovers Vedas from the demon Hayagrivasura.

Lord Sri Brahma Deva adds an extra face / head. And thus, Lord Sri Brahma Deva is called as ‘Pancha Mukhi Brahma Deva’ (With five heads / faces).

Lord Sri Vishnu is showing his leela (pastimes) to the word, so that he can teach lessons to the world

Lord Sri Vishnu is father to Lord Sri Brahma. And thus Lord Sri Vishnu is called as ‘pra-pitamaha’ and Lord Sri Padmanabha.

Lord Sri Brahma is father of Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva). And thus Lord Shiva is called as ‘Virinchi Putra’. Here Virinchi means Lord Sri Brahma Deva.

Lord Sri Brahma Deva mispronounces Vedas. This is as per instructions given by Lord Sri Vishnu to teach lesson to the world.

Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra) cuts off Lord Sri Brahma Deva’s fifth face / head. This is as per the instructions of Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi.

With these points, let us move to next step of this story:

Once a demon named Hayagrivasura steal’s Great Vedas (Four Vedas), that is – Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Deva and Atharva (Atharvana) Veda from Lord Sri Brahma Deva.

Thus, to recover these Great Vedas from the demon, Lord Sri Vishnu takes an avatar of Lord Sri Hayagriva Deva (horse face and human body) and kills the demon Hayagrivasura and thus recovers the Great Vedas from that demon Hayagrivasura.

All the four Vedas were handed over to Lord Sri Brahma Deva by Lord Sri Hayagriva (An avatar of Lord Sri Vishnu).

After this Lord Deva Brahma Deva adds one more extra head / face (This is a drama / pastime done by Lord Sri Vishnu, Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi, Lord Sri Brahma Deva and Lord Shiva).

This is just like a drama (pastimes) in which a person adds some extra clothing or garments during his / her drama’s presentation.

[Also we should remember that Lord Sri Brahma Deva is the pitru / father of Lord Shiva (Sri Rudra Deva)].

Thus Lord Sri Brahma Deva adds an extra face / head to his existing four heads to read the Chatur Vedas (four Vedas).

[With this we should also remember that Lord Sri Brahma Deva never ever makes any mistake or doesn’t make any ‘vikarma‘ (a Karma which is not as per the Sanatana Dharma).]

To show the greatness of Great Vedas to the multiverses (unlimited Universes), Lord Sri Brahma Deva makes one small tiny mistake while making ‘ucchaarana‘ / pronunciation (उचारण) of the Great Vedas.

(I again repeating, this mistake was done intentionally, to show to the world the super greatness of Great Vedas and \ Lord Sri Brahma Deva)

Thus Lord Sri Brahma Deva intentionally incorrectly pronounces the Great Vedas, so that in the future nobody makes such kind of mistake intentionally or unintentionally.

Lord Sri Vishnu, Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi, Lord Sri Brahma Deva and Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra) want to show to the world that even a slightest mistake of chanting the Great Vedas in the incorrect way can lead to huge disastrous.

Thus, seeing incorrect way of pronunciation of the Great Vedas, Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi gives orders to Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) to behead the fifth head of the Lord Sri Brahma Deva, as Lord Sri Brahma Deva made the mistake of chanting the Great Vedas incorrectly.

[We should remember that Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi is the grandmother of Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).]

(We should also remember that Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi’s orders are always obeyed by everybody other than Lord Sri Vishnu.)

(We should again always remember that this is one of the dramas / leelas / pastimes of Lord Sri Vishnu and this mistake was made intentionally to teach to the world about the Super greatness of the Great Vedas).

With this Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) beheads the Lord Sri Brahma Deva’s fifth head using the bow and arrow given by Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi to Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).

Thus, that fifth head / face of Lord Sri Brahma Deva becomes like a great fire of the mountain (like a volcanic eruption) and gets glued on the right hand of the Lord Shiva (Sri Rudra Deva).

But, Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi softens (cools down) it by using the Lord Sri Vishnu’s padodaka (पादोदक) (water of Lord Sri Vishnu’s foot).

Even today this Brahma Kapalam place is still present in India in a place called Badrikashram (Badrinath) (Badrikashrama) (Badrinatha) in Uttarakhand.

After this, Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) comes to Badrinath (Badrikashram) and takes bath in the Great Ganga River (Ganges river), which is nothing but Lord Sri Vishnu’s Padodaka (पादोदक) (which is born from the foot of Lord Sri Vishnu).

That’s why Ganga River water is the most auspicious water on this earth.

This river water has the power of cleansing the Brahma Hatya Dosham.

(Brahma Hatya Dosham means, sin of killing a Brahmana / Brahmin. Here Brahmana / Brahmin is the Lord Sri Brahma Deva.)

That’s why Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) comes and takes bath at the Ganga River (Ganges River) and gets freed of the Brahma Hatya Dosham.

Here two points to be noted are:

1. One should never do the ucchaanara / pronunciation of the Great Vedas [Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharva (Atharvana) Veda] in the incorrect way.

2. Before this period there was nothing like ‘Brahma Hatya dosha‘ known to the universe.

Lord Sri Vishnu (Hari / Narayana) has to show why these two are completely against Sanatana Dharma.

Thus, this leela / drama / pastime shown by Lord Sri Vishnu to all of us (world).

Lord Sri Vishnu (Hari / Narayana) shows that what would happen if someone mispronounces the Great Vedas incorrectly.

And also Lord Sri Vishnu (Hari / Narayana) shows that if someone kills a Brahmana / Brahmin what would happen.

(Brahmana / Brahman / Brahmin means someone who follow the Sanatana Dharma in the correct way and not just born in the Brahmana / Brahmin varna person).

Thus only to show to the world about the consequences of these two, Lord Sri Vishnu (Hari / Narayana) makes this leela / drama / pastime.

But, again to show the greatness of Lord Sri Brahma Deva, the beheaded fifth head is given to Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) by Goddess Sri Lakshmi Devi to Lord Shiva’s (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) right hand.

And thus from this time the same head was called as ‘Kapal or Kapala or Kapalam‘ (कपाल / कपालं)

(Here Kapal or Kapala or Kapalam means a bowl type of thing – the English word ‘cup’ is the short and corrupted word of the original Sanskrit word Kapal).

Later, Goddess Sri Annapurneshwari Devi (A form of Goddess Sri Parvati Devi) donates some food grains to Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).

And thus the Kapal or Kapala or Kapalam gets detached from the hand of Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).

Here it should be noted that this is a pure leela (drama) / pastime of the Lord Sri Vishnu (Hari / Narayana).

We should note that who ever makes mistake(s) in any form will be punished by Lord Sri Vishnu (Hari / Narayana / Rama / Krishna) accordingly to the intensity of the mistake(s).

There is no getting away in Lord Sri Narayana (Vishnu / Hari / Rama / Krishna) court.

We get the fruits as per our Karma. If we do good Karma, we get the good fruits. If we do bad Karma, we get the fruits accordingly.

After this what happened?

Usually, we are often use the word “Hara sahasa” or “Har Sahas” (हर साहस) in our day to day life without actually knowing the exact meaning of those words.

[Har or Hara is another name of Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).]

Let us today understand the real meaning of Har Sahas (Hara Sahasa) (हर साहस) as given below:

After getting Brahma Hatya Dosha, Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) was worried (this is the story of Brahma Deva’s fifth face).

Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) tried his best to get rid of Brahma Hatya dosha. The efforts by Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) is termed as “Har Sahas or Hara sahasa or हर साहस”.

(In simple words, Har Sahas or Hara sahasa or हर साहस” means giving 100%.)

The various steps Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) undertook to get rid of Brahma Hatya Dosha is as given below:

a) Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) went in all the ‘dasha dikh‘ (ten directions) and preached that ‘Hari naama smarana‘ (chanting Lord Sri Hari / Vishnu names) is the ultimate for every ‘paapa prayaschitta‘ (expiation of sin).

b) When Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) went to Badari (Badrinath) (Badrikashram), there he could not get the darshanam of Badri Narayana (Lord Sri Vishnu).

When Lord Shiva has removed the head of Lord Brahma Deva, how Srihari will be pleased on him?

c) Later Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) went to Yamuna, but the entire water was dried up. Again Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) went to ‘plakshma dveepa‘ (a place), but it was invisible for him.

d) Again later, Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) went to ‘Pushkara‘ (Pushkar in Rajasthan), which rejected to remove his Brahma Hatya Dosha, so is Naimisharanya (in Uttar Pradesh).

e) Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) then went to ‘Saindhavaranya‘, and ‘Dharmaranya‘, there was also not possible.

f)  Here again Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) went to Kurukshetra, there he was able to see Lord Sri Vishnu.

Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva) did the stotra of Lord Sri Vishnu and thus Lord Sri Vishnu with his Lord Sri Keshava Roopa (form) was pleased and removed his Brahma Hatya Dosha of Lord Shiva (Lord Sri Rudra Deva).

Now we must have understood, that why people are calling Lord Shiva’s tour as “Har Sahas or Hara sahasa” (Giving 100% percent to gain something).
