Just before going to “What was Gandhari curse to Lord Krishna (did it harmed him) (correct meaning)“, let us have some brief information.
Gandhari was born in the place known as Gandhahar (now called Kandahar in Afghanistan).
In Sanskrit it is called as ‘Gandhara pradesha (गान्धार प्रदेश) (gāndhāra pradēśa)‘ (a place known as Gandhara).
Today’s Indian people refer to it as Kandahar (Kandahara) “Pratyanta Desha”, that is, an extreme border area.
Gandhari was a princess of Gándhára, hence her name came to be known as Gandhari.
In her early days, Gandhari was not well acquainted with the greatness of Lord Sri Krishna.
Neither were the people of Gandhara (Kandahara / Kandahar) were very familiar with the social structure of India, of Central India, though Afghanistan, including Kandahar, was then within India in the earlier days.
Before marriage, when Gandhari learned that her would-be husband was blind, she covered her eyes with a cloth.
“If my husband is unable to see the world, then why should I?”
Thinking thus she kept her eyes covered throughout her life. She was an example of tremendous moral force.
Gandhari removed the cloth (eyes) only twice in her whole life:
The first time was on the eve of the Kurukśetra war, when Dhritarastra instructed his one hundred insolent sons to go to her and ask for her blessing, and secondly to see Lord Sri Krishna.
Dhritarashtra told Duryodhana and his brothers to go before their mother (Gandhari) and ask for Her blessings for victory in the impending war.
“Go, my sons, to your mother. She is a lady of uncommon virtue,” Dhritarashtra said. “Go to her and ask for her blessing.” They did according to their father’s bidding.
Dhritarashtra further asked them to request Her (Gandhari) to look at them with her eyes.
Dhritarashtra knew that because of the Tapasya / Sadhana (penance) that she undertook, she was blessed with immense powers.
A mere glance at them (Kauravas) will make their bodies as hard as iron.
At first Gandhari did not want to do this, but when Dhritarashtra ordered her to first see them and then bless them for their victory, she obeyed.
And for a few moments she removed the cloth from her eyes.
Gandhari was a noble lady of firm principles (She was a great devotee of Lord Sri Krishna).
A woman of integrity is called a Satii.
(In Sanskrit, the term sat means a virtuous man, whereas satii is used to describe a woman of integrity and pure character.)

Both a maiden and a widow can be called satii nárii (satii / divine lady).
Gandhari was a noble lady of high integrity. She is a lady of uncommon virtue. She was virtuosity par excellence.
Now, one cannot bless others with closed eyes.
Dhritarastra thought that Gandhari would surely take off her blindfold while blessing her sons, and that she being a satii nárii (virtuous and pure character lady), blessing with her eyes open, the blessing would certainly be effective.
Dhritarastra had instructed his sons to go naked before their mother, as wherever she would see, that portion of the body would become hard and nobody would be able to kill them.
He also reminded Duryodhana that his arch-enemy was Bhimasena.
He advised him, “My son, your mother being a satii nárii (virtuous and pure character lady), if she casts a benevolent glance on your body, it will become as hard as a thunderbolt.”
So, Gandhari first removed her blindfold when blessing her sons.
As she was firmly committed to dharma, she did not say, “May you be victorious,” but proclaimed, “Yato dharma tato Krśńah, yato Krśńah tato jayah” –
“Where there is dharma, there is Krishna; where there is Krishna, there is victory”.
It was against her principles to pray for the victory of the impious (that is adharmi Duryodhana and his group.
At that time Duryodhana was already a fully grown man, so he went to his mother wearing a loincloth, not completely undressed.
The story goes that when Gandhari blessed him, his body grew as hard as a thunderbolt, except that portion covered by the cloth, which remained vulnerable as before.
The remaining sons also went before their mother wearing loincloths, and not nude.
The portion of the body which was under the loincloth remained vulnerable, while the rest of their bodies got hardened.
Gandhari blessings her son Duryodhana with all her divine powers.
This fact was known to Lord Sri Krishna only.
So towards the end of the war, when Bhimasena was trying to deal a deathly blow to Duryodhana with his mace,
Lord Sri Krishna signaled to Bhima to indicate the vulnerable point on Duryodhana’s body where Bhima could deal a mortal blow with his mace.
Bhima struck Duryodhana on that soft point and he died.
Someone who have not read the Great Mahabharata correctly and also someone who has just seen the TV serials or movies always thinks that Bhimasena killed Duryodhana in the adharma (Iniquity) way.
But it is completely incorrect.
We should always remember that Bhimasena is the avatar of Sri Mukhya Praana Deva (Sri Vayu Deva).
And in his earlier life same Sri Vayu Deva was born as Sri Hanuman during the Treta Yuga (with Lord Sri Rama Chandra Prabhu).
In the Dvapara Yuga same Sri Vayu Deva was born as Sri Bhima Sena
(Here we should note that Sri Mukhya Praana Deva = Sri Vayu Deva = Sri Hanuman = Sri Bhima Sena.)
(All these all same, but took birth as different personalities in different Yugas as per the instructions of Lord Sri Hari.)
(Also, same Sri Vayu Deva takes birth as Sri Madhvacharya Ji in the Kali Yuga).
Coming back to the Mahabharata war between Sri Bhima Sena and Duryodhana:
Duryodhana as a foolish way, he jumps upside down (just like a somersault of today’s athletics), that is his lower body would be upside and his upper body would be at the lower side.
Exactly at time, Sri Bhima Sena hits very hard on the thigh part of Duryodhana and immediately Duryodhana’s thigh gets completely broken.
We should always read from the Original Mahabharata and / or know from the correct Vaishnava Guru about the Greatness of our Great Sanatana Dharma.
Otherwise, we may end up in learning the other way. Just like the TV serials or movies are portraying the Mahabharata and Ramayana in the incorrect way.
Sri Bhima Sena never ever has committed any mistake in his whole life. This is very much clearly clarified in the Great Mahabharata grantha (text).
The second time Gandhari removed the cloth from her eyes was after the war of Kurukśetra, when the battlefield had become a vast cremation ground.
All the daughters-in-law of Gandhari had become widows and were weeping bitterly near their dead husbands. Gandhari, also, was there.
The Pandavas, accompanied by Kunti Devi, their mother, and Lord Sri Krishna also, came there, as many people from their side had been killed and they had to console their relatives.
Lord Sri Krishna consoled Gandhari and said, “Why do you weep? This is the way of the world – you will also depart some day. Why do you weep then?”
Addressing Lord Sri Krishna, Gandhari said, “Krishna, why do you console me? It does not befit you.”
Krishna asked, “Why?”
Gandhari replied, “If you had not planned it, all my sons would not have been killed.”
Lord Sri Krishna replied, “The war was inevitable for the preservation of righteousness and the destruction of pápá (sin). What could I have done, I am only an instrument.”
After Lord Sri Krishna had spoken some words of consolation to Gandhari, she said, “O Krishna, I know and admit that You are Táraka Brahma, that You are Parama Puruśa.”
“If You had only wished something to happen, it would have certainly taken place accordingly. What then was the necessity of enacting such a bloody drama?”
“It was totally unnecessary. You played the role of an ordinary man. You wrote the drama to serve as a lesson and inspire the common people.”
“Yet you played the role of an ordinary man. Being Táraka Brahma, whatever You mentally imagine will take place accordingly.”
“But no, You unnecessarily killed my sons and made my one hundred daughters-in-law widows.”
“Had You only wished the victory of dharma, dharma would have been victorious.”
It was a fact. But Lord Sri Krishna had to put an example before the world.
Let there be a fight. Pápá is defeated. Let the world see and take a lesson. If it had been done without a fight, the world would not have received a valuable lesson.
Lord Sri Krishna did not reply, though logic was on his side. There are numerous instances in one’s life where one’s ideas are correct, but one has to keep quiet.
Lord Sri Krishna was put in that state. As Lord Sri Krishna showed respect to a moralist like Bhishma and greeted him, so did He uphold the importance of Gandhari.
Then Gandhari pronounced the curse, “As the members of my family met destruction before my eyes, so be it with yours before your eyes.”
Lord Sri Krishna replied, “Be it so.”
And so it happened.
Because of the acceptance of the curse by Lord Sri Krishna, it happened.
We should remember that if anything is happening means, at that point there is acceptance of Lord Sri Krishna and similarly if something is not happening means, at that point Lord Sri Krishna don’t want that particular thing to happen.
More over Gandhari was a great devotee of Lord Sri Krishna and thus Lord Sri Krishna always grants the wishes of his devotees and thus he did the same.
Had Lord Sri Krishna not accepted the curse, it would never had happened.
But Lord Sri Krishna accepted it because He wanted to show that moral force has value in life and that it should be accepted.
Had He not done so, the Yaduvamsha (members of the Yadava clan, relatives of Lord Sri Krishna) would not have been destroyed.
We should remember that anything which is born in this universe has to be destroyed sometime.
Be it Sri Brahma Deva, Sri Rudra Deva, Sri Indra Deva or anybody or anything, everything and everybody has to see the end at one point.
Thus Lord Sri Krishna accepted the words of Gandhari. This doesn’t mean that Gandhari had the power of cursing Lord Sri Krishna.
No. That happened because it was the will and wish of Lord Sri Krishna and thus it happened.
Only to make Gandhari great did Lord Sri Krishna do so.
Lord Sri Krishna planned the fight for the victory of Dharma (righteousness) and to end the Adharma (unrighteousness).
“dharmo rakshati, rakshitaha”.
Dharma will always support and help who follow Dharma as per the Sanatana Dharma.
