Just before going to “What is the (True) Essence (Saar) of Bhagavad Gita | What is the Ultimate Truth in Bhagavad Gita?“, let us have a brief some brief information.

What is the meaning of the word ‘Bhagavad Gita’: Bhagavad = Bhagavan’s (God’s) + Gita (divine song). Bhagavad Gita was explained in the form a divine song. | Who said Bhagavad Gita: Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna. |

To whom Bhagavad Gita was said: To Arjuna – To be much more accurate, the divine Bhagavan Gita is for everyone starting from Goddess Sri Lakshmi, Lord Sri Brahma Deva, Lord Sri Rudra to the last living being in the ‘Brahmanda’ (Universe).

Where was the Bhagavad Gita Upadesha was (Preaching) given: At a divine place called Kurukshetra (Today’s Haryana). | When was this Upadesha (Preaching) was given: Approximately 5,000+ B.C |

What can we learn by the study of Srimad Bhagavad-Gita: Accurate, fundamental knowledge about Bhagavan (God), the ultimate truth, creation, birth & death, the results of actions, the eternal soul, liberation and the purpose as well as the goal of human existence.

Now, let’s start to know about “What is the (True) Essence (Saar) of Bhagavad Gita | What is the Ultimate Truth in Bhagavad Gita?” as given below:

To start, let’s take a sloka (verse) from Bhagavan Gita:

karmaṇyēvādhikārastē mā phalēṣu kadācana।
mā karmaphalahēturbhūrmā tē saṅgō̕stvakarmaṇi॥ 2-47॥

Meaning: karmani = The duties prescribedeva = Certainly; adhikarah = rightfully; te = Of you; ma = never; phalesu = Expecting the fruits; kadaachana = At any time; ma = Never; karma-phala = In the result of the work done (Karma);

hetuh = For the cause; bhuh = Become; ma = Never; te = Of you; sangah = Attachment; astu = Be there; akarmani = in not doing Karma / work.

In Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna tells to Arjuna that, “You (Arjuna) have a all the rights to do your prescribed duty (Dharma), but you are not authorized for the fruits of your action”.

“You should never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities (Dharma / work), and never be attached to not doing your duty (Dharma / work).

Now, let us look at the Geeta Saar (essence), that is, the philosophy of Bhagavad Gita as given below:

The divine Bhagavad Gita is a hand book of instructions on how to live and lead a good, better and best life. Our Shastras (Hindu Texts) say that, Bhagavad Gita is the “जीवन धर्म योग शास्त्र | ಜೀವನ ಧರ್ಮ ಯೋಗ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ | jīvana dharma yōga śāstra”

This means, Gita Shastra is intended to remove the cause of Sansar / Samsara (material expectations) such as grief and delusion, permamently. Bhagavad Gita is the perfect text to understand the immortal lifestyle of the divine and great Vedas, Upanishads etc.

Bhagavan Gita contains the essence of Hinduism Sanatana Dharma Philosophy and culture. Bhagavad Gita is not merely a text book of Hinduism, but ‘aadi grantha’ (grand first divine text) of humanity.

Bhagavad Gita is a practical handbook of instructions to the humanity on how to live honorably and to grow out of his (human) instinctive weaknesses.

Bhagavad Gita very clearly says that fleeing away from life’s duties is definitely not the way to reach the highest goal of evolution. Just the simple spirituality without material struggle and secular achievement will not make life lively.

The faith of Bhagavad Gita is that spirituality can be lived in life, and true spiritual understanding is an asset to a mankind who is engaged in the battle of life throughout the life.

Human being alone is given the complete freedom to act as per his/her wish and to the extent he/she disobeys the universal law of sacrifice to that extent he/she come to suffer. This is because, he/she with his/her arrogant and egocentric actions brings discard in the harmony of the existence around him/her.

Among living beings, human alone has been allowed the complete freedom of action to contribute to the harmony and / or to bring about discard in the smooth running of the world.

The divine Bhagavad Gita instructs us to be active at all times, not only physically but also mentally and intellectually. Bhagavad Gita informs us to have the right attitude of mind, thus one may avoid all internal waste of energy and learn to grow in himself / herself.

Bhagavad Gita gives an easy way as to what types of values and mental attitudes one should build so that one can realize the ever effulgent Divinity in them, that is, the pure consciousness.

As said above, Bhagavad Gita is a handbook of complete information and a divine manual of practical living values, as to how every human being can come to live the subtle philosophical principles of Vedic instructions.

Bhagavad Gita is a call to each and everyone of us to get up and fight the battle of our own life according to our own Vaasanaas (Swadharma – impression of anything remaining unconsciously in the mind), so that we may exhaust them and thus gain inner purity.

Bhagavad Gita is a dharmic call to everyone to discard his / her negative mentality and face wholeheartedly and sincerely the situations in the every part of his / her life at every given moment of his existence throughout his / her life.

Bhagavad Gita is a divine call to all the humans to discard his / her miseries in the face of life’s challenges and to come forward to play as best as he / she can in ‘war of life’ with full determination to strive and to win as best as possible.

Bhagavad Gita says that if you are seeking for the success, then you never have to strive with a mind dissipated with anxieties and fears for the fruits.

Incorrect imaginations, unlawful expectations, hallucination about the fruits of actions, stress full life for the results and fears for future tragedies that have not yet appeared to threaten our lives are the attachments to be renounced.

To always fear for the results is to worry for the future and to live in future is not to live in the present is the biggest mistake of our life. Life is full of ups and downs, winning and losing, good and bad etc. Thus we need to accept the true part of our life.

The simple and divine message of Bhagavad Gita is that, actions are not to be avoided (talking about positive and spiritual actions) and the world of objects is not to be denied.

The real philosophy of Bhagavad Gita preaches us the constructive building of life and the destruction or rejection of life’s possibilities.

The divine Bhagavad Gita and the great Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram are the two great treasure of Hindu Sanatana Dharma carved out from the greatest grantha / divine epic Mahabharata.

Bhagavad Gita is a divine song of ultimate truth by the one and only immortal (Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna) to the mortal (Arjuna / Also all the humanity). Active combatting to the Adharmis / evil is the Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna’s creed in Bhagavad Gita.

Let us now take another sloka (verse) from the Bhagavad Gita to move forward:

sarvadharmānparityajya māmēkaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja।
ahaṁ tvā sarvapāpēbhyō mōkṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ॥ 18-66॥

Meaning – sarva-dharmaan = All Dharmas; parityajya = Discard; maam = Unto Me (Sri Krishna); ekam = Only on to me; sharanam = Refugevraja = Go;

aham = I; tvam = You (Arjuna and we all); sarva = All; paapebhyo = From all sins; moksayisyami = I will give your the moksha / divine liberationma = Not; sucah = grieve.

Here, Lord Sri Krishna is telling to Arjuna that, “O Arjuna, discard all Dharmas (material things, physical body, mind, intellect etc.) take refuge in Me (Lord Sri Krishna) alone. I will definitely give you the divine moksha / divine liberation from all sins to you and don’t grieve at all”.

Now, let us know the real Bhagawad Gita essence (Saar) of life as given below:

Whatever happened has happened for the good. | Whatever is happening, is happening for the good. | Whatever will happen, will also be for the good itself. | Whatever is yours today was someone else’s yesterday. |

What did you bring with you that you have lost? | What did you lose that you cry about? | Whatever was given, was given only from here. | What did you create which is now destroyed? |

Change is the law of the Universe. | Whatever you have taken, you have taken from here. | Whatever you have today, it will be someone else’s tomorrow. | Etc.

Let’s take another sloka (verse) as example:

वासुदेव सुतं देवं कंस चाणूीर मर्धनं |
देवकि परमानंदं कृष्णम् वंदे जगत् गुरुम् ||

ವಾಸುದೇವ ಸುತಂ ದೇವಂ ಕಂಸ ಚಾಣೂರ ಮರ್ದನಂ |
ದೇವಕಿ ಪರಮಾನಂದಂ ಕೃಷ್ಣಮ್ ವಂದೇ ಜಗತ್ ಗುರುಮ್ ||

vāsudēva sutaṁ dēvaṁ kansa cāṇūra mardanaṁ |
dēvaki paramānandaṁ kr̥ṣṇam vandē jagat gurum ||

Meaning of the above sloka: Oh Lord Sri Krishna, you are the son of Vasudeva (read as वसुदेव), you are the one who have slayed Kamsa, Chaanoora. And you are the one who has given the immense joy to Devaki and thus I do namaste to the Jagat Guru (Guru / Teacher of the unlimited universes).
