Jarasandha story | Did Karna defeated jarasandha | Son of Jarasandha | And many more…

After Lord Sri Krishna releases His parents from the prison, Lord Sri Krishna makes Ugrasena the king of Mathura, and asked Nanda Maharaja to return to Vrindavana.

(Lord Sri Krishna’s parents names are Devaki and Vasudeva. They are the avatars of Aditi Devi and Maharishi Kashyapa.)

Lord Sri Krishna goes to Sandipani Maharshi with Balarama and studied the entire Vedic literature and 64 arts.

[We should always remember here that Lord Sri Krishna is svayam Bhagavan (direct God) and thus doesn’t need any teacher or anyone to make him understand anything.]

[Just to show how we need to behave and on how to obey the orders of Guru (teacher) and elders, Lord Sri Krishna is showing us the path of Dharma.]

There, Lord Sri Krishna revived His Guru Sandipani’s son, who had died.

Lord Sri Krishna returned to Mathura and killed the demon Panchajanya, who was hiding in the sea at Prabhasa (today’s Somnath).

Lord Sri Krishna obtained the conch Panchajanya Shankha.

Kamsa’s two wives names are Asti and Prasti. They both were the daughters of Jarasandha, went to Lord Sri Krishna and cried before Him because of the death of their husband (Kamsa).

Since Lord Sri Krishna had slayed down Kamsa, Jarasandha became furious against Lord Sri Krishna and started to think that Lord Sri Krishna is his biggest enemy on this earth.

Thus Jarasandha started to hate Lord Sri Krishna.

Jarasandha was the demon named Viprachitti reborn.

Jarasandha was invincible as a result of the boons given to him by Lord Sri Brahma Deva, Lord Sri Rudra Deva (Shiva), and Durvasa (An avatar of Lord Shiva).

Jarasandha was an ardent devotee of Bhairava (Lord Shiva form) and had collected 86,000 Kshatriya boys to offer as human sacrifice to Bhairava (Lord Shiva form).

Jarasandha had attacks Mathura 18 times with his 23 akshauhini army.

To avoid his harassment of the citizens of Mathura, Lord Sri Krishna built the city of Dvaraka in the sea.

(Dvaraka or Dwarka means = Dvara + ka = Dvara means door and ka means svayam Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna. It is a door to meet Lord Sri Krishna.)

The distance between Jarasandha’s capital and Mathura was 101 yojanas, but Devarishi Narada told Jarasandha that it was 100 yojanas.

Consequently, the mace Jarasandha threw dropped one yojana before Mathura, and the city was saved.

This mace hit Jara, who had joined the two portions of Jarasandha’s body and enabled him to survive, and thus Jara was killed.

(Jara was like a mother to Jarasandha and so the name Jarasandha.)

(Jarasandha = Jara + Sandha = Jara is the name of demon lady who saved Jarasandha and Sandha means joining.)

Jarasandha attacked Mathura again and sent Vinda and Anuvinda as messengers to Lord Sri Krishna.

Jarasandha message had two meaning; it praised Lord Sri Krishna and also ridiculed Lord Sri Krishna as well.

Lord Sri Krishna came out from Mathura city with Balarama.

Lord Sri Krishna placed his army at the three gates of Mathura, putting Satyaki in charge of it, and He came out by the north gate.

All the weapons came down to Him and Balarama at His will.

Taking these, Lord Sri Krishna proceeded with Daruka (sarathi or charioteer of Lord Sri Krishna), His charioteer.

Lord Sri Krishna and Balarama attacked Jarasandha, and his armies.

The supporters of Jarasandha (Hamsa, Dibhika, Rukmi, Bahlika, Shishupala, Shalya etc.) ran away.

Jarasandha attacked Balarama, and the two fought bitterly.

Jarasandha was hit by Balarama’s plough and fainted, and Balarama arrested him.

Ekalavya then shot arrows at Balarama, but Balarama was not affected by them.

Ekalavya was an ardent enemy of Lord Sri Krishna. To know why Lord Sri Krishna killed Ekalavya, check this below link:

Why Dronacharya asked Ekalavya for his thumb | Why Krishna killed Ekalavya

Lord Sri Krishna did not want to fight with Ekalavya Himself. He made His son Manmatha (Pradyumna) fight with him.

Manmatha destroyed Ekalavya’s weapons. Ekalavya was Manimanta, the leader of the Krodhavasa group of demons. He was not really a hunter.

Ekalavya was the son of Devashrava, the brother of Vasudeva (वसुदेव) and was sent out of his home. The hunter Hiranyadhanu brought him up, so he became known as a hunter.

Finally Lord Sri Krishna instructed Bhima to kill Jarasandha as per Jarasandha’s earlier Karmas.

Lord Sri Krishna along with Arjuna and Bhima went to Jarasandha’s kingdom Magadha and invited him to fight with any one of them.

Jarasandha chose Bhima as he thought Bhima is the only person among the three who is physically fit to fight with him.

Lord Sri Krishna instructed Bhima to tear-off Jarasandha’s body and throw the two pieces of his in the opposite directions.

Thus, finally Jarasandha was killed by Bhima.

Death of Pandu story

At the other end, Pandu sported with his wife Madri and died. At this time, Kunti was engaged in serving the guests on Arjuna’s 14th birthday.

King Pandu was an avatar of Pravaha Maruta.

Once Pravaha Maruta (Pandu’s earlier life’s name) had gone to Lord Sri Indra Deva when Lord Sri Indra Deva was sporting with Sachi.

This obstruction was the real reason for Pandu’s death, and the curse of the ascetic Kindara (a rishi) was only an excuse.

Both Kunti and Madri wanted to burn themselves on Pandu’s funeral pyre. Madri did so, but the sages advised Kunti not to die and to look after the children.

Madri was permitted to die with her husband because she had invited Ashvini deities, who were inferior to Pandu, to beget children, and this was an offense.

Kunti returned to Hastinapura with the Pandavas.

Dhritarashtra and Bhishma were silent.

Vidura was happy.

Vidura was happy for two reasons:

1) He could meet Pandavas.

2) Dhritarashtra and Bhishma accepted by their silence the fact that Pandavas were the bona-fide children of Pandu.

However Duryodhana disputed it.

Even though the sages of Badarikashrama (Today’s Badrinath) said that Pandu died just seventeen days before, Duryodhana argued that Pandu had died much earlier.

Lord Sri Vayu Deva announced by the ethereal voice that the Pandavas were born when Pandu was alive by niyoga neeti with the deities with Pandu’s permission.

Thus, finally all the Pandavas along with Kunti were allowed to stay at Hastinapura.
