Lord Sri Krishna informing Bhishma to tell ‘Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam’ to Yudhishthira and other Pandavas. ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’ means, 1000 names of Lord Vishnu.

But this doesn’t mean Lord Vishnu has only 1000 names. Our Shastras says that, “we can easily count the number of mud particles on this earth, but it is difficult to count the number of names of Lord Vishnu”. This is the greatness of Lord Vishnu.

Who wrote Sri Vishnu Sahasranama and when? – This was indeed written by Lord (Sage) Sri Veda Vyasa Ji in the Great Epic of Mahabharata. This was again re-told by the Great Bhishma.

On Bhishma Ekadashi, that is, on Magha maasam (month) Shukla Paksha (Bright fortnight) Ekadashi, on instructions by Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna, ‘Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram’ was revealed to the Pandavas on this day by Bhishma, who was lying in a ‘sharashayya’ (bed of arrows) after the Great War in Mahabharata.

This was done in the divine presence of Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna, Bhagavan Lord Sri Parashurama and Bhagavan Lord (Sage) Sri Vedavyasa.
