Just before moving towards to know about “Why Krishna married 16000 wives (inside true story – Srimad Bhagavatam) (Narakasur story)“, let us know a brief, basic and very important information.

Lord Sri Krishna married all the 16,100 (totally 16,108) woman mainly for two reasons as per Srimad Bhagavatam. In this post (article), let us know both the reasons as given below:

Reason 1 : There was a demon named Narakasura or Narakasur, was the son of Dharitri (Bhoomaata / mother earth) and Lord Varaha Swamy (Lord Sri Vishnu avatar).

The demon Narakasura became a rakshasa (demon) due to association of another rakshasa known as Banasura. Narakasura had won all the three lokas (worlds), that is, Bhumi / earth, Svargam and Patala.

Also Narakasura was kidnapping many ‘sundari kumaris’ (beautiful divine girls) from all these three lokas and was keeping imprisoned in his own kingdom.

Narakasura was also attacking the three lokas (worlds) and was stealing many valuable things. Narakasura had stolen many of the Lord Indra Deva’s elephants, horses, etc. Also, Narakasura had stolen Aditi Devi’s (Deva maata) ear-rings, Lord Varuna Deva’s Umbrella.

Apart from this, Narakasura had also stolen the play ground of the Devatas (Demigods) known as ‘Mani Parvata‘ and was also planning to steal Airavata (Lord Indra Deva’s elephant mount).

All these things were happening to the three lokas (worlds) and especially everything was going against the Lord Indra Deva. Thus Lord Indra Deva felt highly insulted and humiliated.

With this insult Lord Indra Deva went straight to the Lord Sri Krishna, as Lord Indra Deva was wanting his Svarga Lokam (Heaven) back. And also, Lord Indra Deva was wanting to take revenge against Narakasura.

Lord Indra Deva came to Lord Sri Krishna and explained everything to Lord Sri Krishna. Immediately after hearing the grievances of the Lord Indra Deva, Lord Sri Krishna thought of attacking Narakasura and killing him instantly.

[Note : We should always remember that Lord Sri Krishna is called as ‘bhakta vatsala’ (highly kind to his devotees) and ‘sharanagata vatsala’ (highly kind to the surrendered souls).]

[Lord Sri Krishna will always be ready to save his real and true devotees. Lord Indra is one of the greatest devotees of Lord Sri Krishna.]

But at that time, when Lord Indra Deva came to see Lord Sri Krishna, Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi was also present with Lord Sri Krishna. Here Lord Sri Krishna was not willing to leave Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi alone and go for the war.

On the other hand, Lord Sri Krishna cannot tell to Lord Indra Deva, that he cannot help him in that situation. Thus, Lord Sri Krishna took Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi along with him.

Lord Sri Krishna took Sri Satyabhama Devi on his vehicle / mount Lord Garuda. Both Lord Sri Krishna and Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi went to Narakasur’s place to teach him lesson.

Both Lord Sri Krishna and Sri Satyabhama Devi sat on the Lord Garuda and they both straight away went to the kingdom of Narakasura. While entering the kingdom of Narakasura, a demon named ‘Mura’ attacked Lord Sri Krishna.

Instantly, Lord Sri Krishna cut off the head of the demon Mura along with his seven sons using the Sudarshana Chakra.

(Note : Thus Lord Sri Krishna is also came to be known as Lord Sri Murari. This is because, Lord Sri Krishna is that personality that with highest ease has killed the demon Mura and thus he is called as Murari).

After knowing that the demon Mura had went to Yamalokam (death place), Narakasura himself came outside to fight against Lord Sri Krishna on an elephant.

As soon as Narakasura came down to battle field, he threw his fierce lance at the Lord Sri Krishna. But nothing can harm the Lord Sri Krishna, who is an avatar of Lord Sri Vishnu himself.

(Note : There is no difference between Lord Sri Krishna or Lord Sri Vishnu or any of his avatars. All are one and the same, but with different wish and forms.)

On the other hand Lord Sri Krishna sent all the soldiers of the Narakasura to the ‘mrityu lokam’ (Yama loka) (death place). Then, later using the Sudarshana Chakra, Lord Sri Krishna cut off the head of Narakasura.

(Note : From this time Lord Sri Krishna got the name Lord Sri Narakari, this means, Lord Sri Krishna is someone who has killed the Narakasura demon).

As soon as Narakasura was killed his mother Bhoodevi (Mother earth) was very happy as she thought that having a son like Narakasura is equal to not having a son itself. Bhoo Maata (Mother earth) sang many songs praising Lord Sri Krishna.

Bhoo Maata (Mother earth) also requested Lord Sri Krishna to make Bhagadatta, who was the son of Narakasura the king for the kingdom of the Narakasura.

Thus all the Devatas (Demigods) from the Svarga Lokam (Heaven) showered divine flowers on the Lord Sri Krishna and Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi.

Bhoo Maata (Mother earth) went down to Lord Sri Krishna and handed over all the items that was stolen by Narakasura and which he had kept with his mother.

Also, Bhoo Maata (Mother earth) requested Lord Sri Krishna to pacify Bhagadatta (Son of Narakasura), as he was afraid of his father, Narakasura.

After pacifying Bhagadatta, Lord Sri Krishna went inside the palace of Narakasura and found that 16,100 young ‘baalikas’ (divine girls) were imprisoned by Narakasura. Lord Sri Krishna freed all the 16,100 young women immediately.

While all the women were not willing to leave the place and were not willing to go to their own places, since they all were abducted by Narakasura. If they went back to their places, then the people around them will ill-talk about them.

So all these divine ladies requested Lord Sri Krishna to marry him. Thus the ever kind hearted, Lord Sri Krishna married all the 16,100 women.

(Reason 2 : We should note that, in their earlier lives all these 16,100 divine ladies had done tapas / penance to get Lord Vishnu to marry them. Thus Lord Sri Krishna, who is an avatar of Lord Vishnu fulfilled the ladies wishes in this avatar.)

[In their earlier lives, 16,100 divine ladies all were the children of Lord Agni Deva had done the tapasya (penance) to Lord Sri Vayu Deva and requested him to bless them so that they can marry Lord Sri Vishnu (Krishna).]

After this, all the 16,100 divine ladies went to Dwaraka, that is, to Lord Sri Krishna’s royal palace. While Lord Sri Krishna along with Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi went to Svarga Lokam (Heaven) and gave away the earrings to Sri Aditi Devi, the mother of all the Devatas (Demigods).

Also both Lord Indra Deva and Goddess Sri Sachi Devi (wife of Lord Indra Deva) took blessings from Lord Sri Krishna and Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi.

On this same occasion, Lord Sri Krishna fought with Lord Indra Deva & many Devatas (Demigods) and took away the ‘Parijata vriksha’ tree from Svarga Lokam (Heaven).

And also, gave the Parijata tree to Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi, as per the request of Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi.

(Note : We should note that, Lord Indra Deva hesitated to give the Parijata tree to Lord Sri Krishna as per the wishes of Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi.)

(No one should tell ‘NO’ to Lord Sri Krishna, as everything and anything in this multiverses belongs to Lord Sri Krishna himself and all others are mere followers of Lord Sri Krishna).

Lord Indra Deva, his wife Goddess Sri Sachi Devi and all the Devatas (Demigods) were not willing to give that Parijata tree to Lord Sri Krishna.

But because, Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi had liked the Parijata tree and it’s smell, Lord Sri Krishna uprooted the tree and gave it to Goddess Sri Satyabhama Devi.

Sri Krishna Rukmini Satybhama story – Bhakthi is most dearest to Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna

PS: Here it should be note that, all the 16,100 young women by their own will and wish requested Lord Sri Krishna to marry him. There was no hard rule that all these women should be marrying to Lord Sri Krishna.

Only upon the request of those women Lord Sri Krishna got married to all 16,100 women. Apart from these 16,100 women, Lord Sri Krishna had got married to another eight divine women namely:

Sri Rukmini Devi, Sri Satyabhama Devi, Sri Jambavati Devi, Sri Kalindi Devi, Sri Mitravinda Devi, Sri Nagnajiti Devi (Also called Sri Neela Devi), Sri Bhadra Devi and Sri Lakshmana Devi (Also called Sri Lakshana Devi).

Lord Sri Krishna got married to all these 16,108 women as Lord Sri Krishna is the svayam Bhagavan (Lord Sri Vishnu avatar). Lord Sri Krishna has the power to do anything and everything as per his will and wish completely independently and with zero dependance.

If Lord Sri Krishna has the power to kill Kamsa, if he has the power to kill the demoness Putana, if he has the power to kill Narakasura, Dhenukasura, Pralambhasura, Chanoora, etc. etc. etc. then he has the power to marry as many wives as he likes.

We ordinary humans shouldn’t be thinking that Lord Sri Krishna has got married to so many women, why shouldn’t we have more then one wife or affair.

No, sorry, we are ordinary humans. We as humans cannot overload ourselves with more then one wife in this Kali Yuga and this is the rule of this Kali Yuga, one man = one woman. No remarriage, no divorces, nothing similar to it.

Even if unknowingly if someone get marry to more then one wife also, then it is difficult to look after those wives or to pacify them all the time.

Lord Sri Krishna’s all 16,108 wives were always happy and were always young as a 16 year old young girls. They did not fought with each other even once in their life time.

Lord Sri Krishna, an avatar of Lord Sri Vishnu himself, was always there with all the 16,108 wives all the time (24/7 and 365 days), throughout the life. We as humans cannot do those things.

Let all of us be ordinary humans and try not to be Bhagavan Lord Sri Krishna or not to try to enact like Lord Sri Krishna.
