Just before going to “Lord Trivikrama (Vamana) information, name meaning, facts, importance, significance | Why is Lord Vishnu is called Trivikram? | Who was Vishnu’s 5th avatar?“, let us know a brief, basic and very important information.
Lord Trivikrama parents : Lord Sri Vishnu decides to take avatar on this earth as the son of Maharshi Kashyapa and his consort Aditi Devi as the avatar of Lord Sri Vamana (also called as Lord Trivikrama / Trivikram / त्रिविक्रम).
(We should always remember that Lord Sri Vishnu’s all the avatars don’t take birth as we ordinary humans take birth. His is called as avatar and ours is called as birth. There is a huge difference between avatar and birth).
Why is Lord Vishnu is called Trivikram : Trivikrama means, he is the Bhagavan (God) who has measured all the three Lokas / worlds with highest ease with his foot.
Who was Vishnu’s 5th avatar : Lord Sri Vishnu takes the avatar of Lord Vamana or Lord Trivikrama as the 5th avatar to teach King Mahabali lessons and to get back the Svarga Loka from King Mahabali.
Since Lord Sri Vishnu is called as ‘aprakruta’ (not dependent on nature), this means, he doesn’t depends on the ‘prakriti’ (nature) to take avatar.
Lord Sri Vishnu is completely independent of anything and everything. He doesn’t depends on parents to take avatar on this earth as we do.
Lord Sri Vishnu doesn’t depend on anyone or anything to satisfy himself. And thus he is called as ‘atma kaama’, this means, no one else can satisfy him, but he himself can.
Please note that all the Devatas (Demigods) starting from Lord Sri Indra Deva, Lord Sri Surya Deva, Lord Sri Agni Deva etc. are all children of this great and divine couple Maharishi Kashyapa and his consort Aditi Devi.
Now let us understand the different meanings of the word “Trivikrama”:
(Please note that the below given meanings are very limited to my knowledge and the name “Trivikrama” has unlimited number of meanings.)
1. Lord Sri Vishnu’s name “Trivikrama / Trivikram / त्रिविक्रम” = Tri + vi + krama = Three + victory + movement.
This means Lord Sri Trivikrama gains victory in all the three lokas / worlds (Bhuvar Loka and above, Bhu Loka and all the different Patala Lokas) by just stepping his small and tiny lotus feet around.
Here three lokas (fourteen lokas in total) names are as given below:
1. Satya-Loka | 2. Tapa-Loka | 3. Jana-Loka | 4. Mahar-Loka | 5. Svar-Loka | 6. Bhuvar-Loka | 7. Bhu-Loka |
8. Atala-Loka | 9. Vitala-Loka | 10. Sutala-Loka | 11. Talatala-Loka | 12. Mahatala-Loka | 13. Rasatala-Loka | 14. Patala-Loka |
Meaning of this is, Starting from Bhuvar-Loka up-to Satya-Loka (Brahma Loka) is first Loka. Bhu-loka is second loka. From Atala-Loka upto Patala-Loka is the third Loka.
2. Trivikrama means, upholder of law, maintainer of that law and giver of boons as per those laws (here we get the boons as per our Karmas).
3. Trivikrama means who can take huge three strides using his small and tiny lotus feet, but still can conquer all the three Lokas / worlds (see first point).
4. Trivikrama means, who is above the three Gunas, that is, Satvika, Rajasika and Tamasika. Lord Sri Trivikrama or Lord Sri Vishnu doesn’t get dosha (sin) because of these three gunas.
5. Trivikrama means, he is the Bhagavan (God) who has measured all the three Lokas / worlds with highest ease.
6. Lord Sri Trivikrama (Lord Sri Vishnu) himself is the ‘srishti karta’ (creator), ‘sthiti karta’ (maintainer) and ‘laya karta’ (destroyer) of all the unlimited multiverses.
7. Lord Sri Trivikrama (Lord Sri Vishnu) is the one who pervades in “Vaikuntha”, “Anantasasana” and “Shwetadveepa” and is an ‘apratima / immanent’, and thus Lord Sri Vishnu is called as Lord Sri Trivikrama.
(All these three places, that is, Vaikuntha, Anantasana and Shwetadveepa are Lord Sri Vishnu’s dearest places.)
8. In all the three Lokas / worlds, Lord Sri Trivikrama (Lord Sri Vishnu) has over powered the three states, that is, first is ‘Adhyatmika’ – concerning the self (paramatma – supreme soul).
Second is ‘Adi-Bhoutika’ – concerning the pancha bhoota (five elements), that is, prithvi (earth), jala (water), tejasa (fire), akasha (sky) and vayu (air). Third is ‘Adi-Daivika’ – concerning daivi / divine Devatas / Demigods.
9. For all the Asuras (Rakshasa / demons), for all the Manavas (humans) and for all the Devatas (Demigods), Lord Sri Trivikrama (Lord Sri Vishnu) provides everything starting from air, water, food, shelter, knowledge, etc., hence he is called as Lord Sri Trivikrama.
Now let us all understand the below (taken from Sri Vishnu Sahasranama):

उपेन्द्रो – वामनः – त्रिविक्रमः | ಉಪೇಂದ್ರೋ – ವಾಮನಃ – ತ್ರಿವಿಕ್ರಮಃ | upēndrō – vāmanaḥ – trivikramaḥ |
Many must know the names of Lord Sri Vishnu as given below:

While suppressing the pride and vanity of King Mahabali (Bali Chakravarti), Lord Sri Vishnu was known as Lord Sri Trivikrama when Lord Sri Vamana grew to a gigantic size.
After growing into a gigantic size, Lord Sri Vamana conquered the three worlds, that is, Bhumi / Earth, Upper worlds and Nether worlds with just three steps (see above to know the different Lokas names).
While manifesting as Lord Sri Trivikrama form Lord Sri Vishnu’s foot touched the zenith then the Lord Sri Vishnu’s ‘पादोद्भवी’ / ‘PAADODBHAVI’ (that is, Ganga Devi / Ganges) emerged out.
