Just before going to “Pandu, Kunti, Madri story (information) | What is Kunti and Karna story | Kunti and Madri relationship“, let us have some brief information.
Pandu belonged to : Chandravamsha (Chandranvanshi) (Lunar Dynasty).
Pandu main weapons : Bow and arrow.
Pandu parents : Ambalika (Mother), Vichitravirya (Father), Vyasa (Niyoga father).
Pandu brothers : Dhritarashtra and Vidura.
Pandu wives’ names are : Kunti (Pritha) and Madri.
Pandu and Kunti children : Yudhishthira, Bhima and Arjuna. Yudhishthira is Lord Sri Yama Deva avatar, Bhima is Lord Sri Vayu Deva avatar and Arjuna is Lord Sri Indra Deva avatar.
Pandu and Madri children : Nakula and Sahadeva. Nakula is Dasra avatar and Sahadeva is Nasatya avatar. Both are originaly the avatars of Ashwini Kumaras (Demigods’ physicians).
Kunti original (birth) name and birthplace : Pritha (name) at Mathura (birthplace).
Kunti parents names are : Shurasena (father), Marisha (mother), Kuntibhoja (foster father).
Kunti siblings : Shrutadeva, Shrutakirti, Shrutashrava, Rajadhidevi, Vasudeva (Krishna’s father), and 9 others.
Madri brothers name : Shalya (elder) and Madrasena (younger).
King Shura or Shurasena gave his daughter Pritha as adopted daughter to King Kuntibhoja. Therefore, she came to be known as Kunti.
Kunti was the wife of Pandu in his original form (avatar) of Pravaha Maruta and went by the same name, Kunti during the Great Mahabharata time.
Kuntibhoja was Kurma Maruta in his original form (avatar). Sage Durvasa (an avatar of Lord Shiva) came to his city and desired to observe chaturmaasa in his place.
(Chaturmaasa means four months of rainy season.)
King Kuntibhoja offered all facilities and asked his daughter Kunti (at that time she was thirteen years old), to serve him. She devotedly did so.
Sage Durvasa was pleased by her service and taught her a mantra by which she could call the deities (Devatas) (Demigods).
Out of curiosity (remember, at the very young age of 13 years, she did this), she called Lord Sri Surya Deva.
Kunti was attracted by him and sported with him. Consequently, she got a male child.
The child was Lord Sri Surya Deva himself in another form, but the demons Sahasravarma and Narakasura were also present in him as amsha (ansh) (part).
Kunti, afraid of public ostracism, put the child in a box filled with valuable gems and floated it on the river Ashvanadi.
It reached the river Ganga through Charmanvati and Yamuna. A suta (charioteer), i.e. Adhiratha, lifted it and adopted the child as his son.
Adhiratha’s wife Radha also bestowed all her affection on him.
Karna studied the scriptures, weapons, etc. He was named Karna and Vasushena.
Pandu married Kunti and Madri.
Vidura married Aruni, the daughter of Shura through his shudra wife.
Ritayana, the king of Madra, begot a son (Shalya) and a daughter (Madri).
Shalya was Prahlada’s brother Sahalada in an earlier birth. Lord Sri Vayu Deva was partially present in him an amsha (ansh) (part).
Madri was Pandu’s wife in the earlier birth also.
Dhritarashtra asked Pandu to rule over the kingdom. Pandu ruled guided by Bhishma.
Lord (Sage) Sri Vedavyasa (an avatar of Lord Sri Vishnu) took Satyavati, Ambika, and Ambalika to his ashrama.
In due course, Satyavati and Ambalika attained Vaikuntha while Ambika attained sarupya, a kind of liberation.
After some time, Pandu retired to the forest and lived in Badarikashrama (Today’s Badrinath).
Unfortunately, he killed an ascetic who was sporting with his wife assuming the form of a deer.
The ascetic cursed him that he should also die when he was sporting with his wife.
Pandu moved to Shatashringa mountain and lived in Pandukeshvara with Kunti and Madri.
Lord Sri Brahma Deva and Lord Sri Indra Deva appeal Supreme Lord Sri Vishnu for Lord Sri Krishna avatar
At this juncture, the deities Lord Sri Indra Deva and others, led by Lord Sri Brahma Deva and accompanied by Bhudevi (Mother earth), approached Lord Sri Vishnu.
They described the fight between the deities and the demons that had taken place earlier.
Recalling the warding off of Sambara’s maya (illusion), the destruction of Viprachitti’s weapons, the killing of Kalanemi, and other great events of that battle.
They further told Lord Sri Vishnu that these demons were then born again.
If these demons listen to discourses by sages and Brahmanas (Brahmins) and obtain devotion to you it will affect the very setup described in Scriptures.
Therefore we appeal to you to take an incarnation (avatar) and mislead the demons and destroy them.
They informed that Kamsa, Jarasandha, Hamsa and Dhibika were already born.
Kamsa was Kalanemi in his earlier life.
Jarasandha was Viprachitti in his earlier life.
Hamsa and Dhibika were Madhu and Kaitabha in their earlier lives.
Ravana and Kumbhakarna were reborn as Shishupala and Dantavaktra.
(Originally they are the gatekeepers of Vaikuntha called as Jaya and Vijaya. Their first incarnation was of Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha.)
The demon Bali was born as Salva.
The demon Banasura was born as Kichaka.
All these had to be destroyed.
Hearing all of this, Lord Sri Vishnu assured Lord Sri Brahma Deva and others that He will take the necessary incarnation (avatar).
Lord Sri Vishnu moved to Meru mountain with all the deities and made Lord Sri Brahma Deva announce which deity should take which form to assist Him in the task of his incarnation (avatar).
Lord Sri Brahma Deva informed Supreme Lord Sri Vishnu that he had cursed Maharishi Kashyapa to be born as a Kshatriya, but undertake a Vaishya’s duty of rearing cows.
This was because Maharishi Kashyapa had refused to return Lord Sri Varuna’s cows, which he had brought for his sacrifice.
Maharishi Kashypa was then born as a son of King Shura (Shurasena) and was named Vasudeva (वसुदेव).
One of the Vasus, Drona (not Dronacharya), was born as Nanda Maharaja.
Nanda Maharaja was also called as Nandagopa was the son of King Shura (Shurasena) through his Vaishya wife.
Both Vasudeva and Devaki and Nanda and Yashoda had performed penance to beget the Lord Sri Vishnu as their son.
(Vasudeva is an avatar of Maharishi Kashyapa and Devaki is an avatar of Aditi Devi.)
Therefore, He revealed Himself as Vasudeva’s son first and then moved to Nanda’s place.
Lord Sri Vishnu accepted Lord Sri Brahma Deva’s appeal and asked the deities to be born on the earth.
Accordingly, the deities were born (took different avatars as per the instructions of Lord Sri Vishnu).
Lord Kubera was born as Bhagadatta. The demon Baskala was partially present in him as am amsha (ansh) (part).
Yuyudhana was born as a son of Satyaka and was known as Satyaki.
Lord Garuda, Samvaha Maruta, and Vishnu Chakra (Sudarshana), i.e. Pradyumna, were partially present in him as amsha (ansh) (part).
Kritavarma, the son of Hridika, had the presence of Panchajanya (shankha) (conch), i.e. Aniruddha, and Pravaha Maruta partially.
Similarly, the other deities and demons were also born.
Those who supported the Pandavas were the deities (Devatas) (Demigods) and their followers.
Those who opposed them were demons (asuras) (rakshasas) and men of unsteady mind.
