Just before going to “Surya Ashtottara Shatanamavali (108 names) lyrics (Mahabharata) (Sanskrit, Kannada, English script)“, let us know a brief, basic and very important information.
When Yudhishthira was worried of how to provide food to thousands of Brahmins who had accompanied them (Pandavas) during their ‘aranyavasa‘ (exile in the forest).
At that time, Dhaumya Rishi (He is Kula Guru / family Guru of Pandavas) advises Yudhishthira to pray to Lord Sri Srimann Narayana (Lord Sri Vishnu). (In the form of Lord Sri Surya Narayana / Lord Sri Surya Deva / The Sun God).
Lord Sri Surya Deva (The Sun God) is the one who provides sustenance (poshana / divine food etc.) to the entire universe.
And thus Dhaumya Rishi preaches him (Yudhishthira) 108 divine names of Lord Sri Surya Deva (The Sun God). (In Sanskrit Ashtottara Shatanamavali means 108 names.)
Thus pleased with the prayers made by Yudhishtira, Lord Sri Surya Deva (The Sun God) blesses Yudhisthira with the divine ‘Akshaya Patra‘.
This ‘Akshaya Patra’ gives ‘akshaya aaharam’ (अक्षय आहारं) (akṣaya āhāraṁ), that is, divine and unlimited food as per the wishes of the wisher.
Yudhishthira with the help of Draupadi Devi used to serve to all the atithis (divine guests) who were visiting the Pandavas during their forest exile.
A Sat-Sankalpa with sincere prayers will always have divine support of Lord Sri Krishna (Vishnu). (Here Sat-Sankalpa means, a dharmic person following the Sankalpa – in this case Atithi-Satkaara / Guest’s hospitality.)
With this that person also gets proper direction and full success in accomplishment of a task by a Sadhaka (Divine organizer – Here Yudhisthira).
Atithi-Satkaara (Guest’s hospitality) is one of the Pancha Maha Yagnas (That is, Five Great Manushya / Human Yagnas) stipulated for a Grihasta (Husband home maker).
And it is a Sat-Sankalpa of Yudhishtira who got timely and proper direction from his Guru Dhaumya Rishi which finally resulted in Bhagavad Karuna (blessings of Lord Sri Krishna), that is –
By the Sarvottama / Supreme Lord Sri Krishna (Vishnu) in the form of Lord Sri Surya Deva (The Sun God) (Surya Narayana).
[Note : We should note that Lord Sri Krishna (Narayana) (Vishnu) is the antaryami (someone who stays inside) of Lord Sri Surya Deva (The Sun God).]
[Thus Lord Sri Surya Deva (The Sun God) got the name ‘Lord Sri Surya Narayana‘. But Lord Sri Krishna (Vishnu) is different and Lord Sri Surya Deva is different.]
