What are the FAQs about Hinduism, Mahabharata, Ramayana – Part 1

Now, let’s move to next question:

What are the FAQs about (Mahabharata, Ramayana, etc. (Part 2)?

26. Who is the founder of Hinduism & since how long Hinduism is existing?

Answer: Bhagavan Sri Vishnu is the founder of the Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism).

a. One Kali yuga = 4,32,000 earth’s years | b. One Dvapara yuga = one Kali yuga * 2 = 8,64,000 earth’s years | c. One Treta yuga = one Kali yuga * 3 = 12,96,000 earth’s years | d. One Sayta or Krita yuga = one Kali yuga * 4 = 17,28,000 earth’s years

A cycle of satya yuga, treta yuga, dvapara yuga and kali yuga is known as a Mahayuga. This goes on and on…

To know in detail about the same, you can visit my another post. Link for the same is as given here: What is the Hindu measurement of time

27. Who is Dattatreya, how many faces does he has and what is the meaning of the name ‘Dattatreya’?

Answer: Dattatreya is an avatar of Bhagavan Vishnu. His parents are Maharshi Atri (father) and Anasuya (mother). Dattatreya had only one face, unlike what we know today.

All the Tridevas, that is, Bhagavan Vishnu, Brahma Deva and Lord Shiva take birth as Dattatreya, Chandra and Durvasa Muni. Since Brahma Deva doesn’t take avatar on earth, he takes avatar through a Demigod known as Chandra.

All three had different body and unique faces. The image with three faces of Dattatreya can’t be accepted, as Dattatreya is Bhagavan Vishnu and other two are Chandra and Durvasa Muni. Dattatreya meaning: Dattatreya = Datta + atreya = donated + to Atri (as son of Atri).

This means Bhagavan Vishnu donated himself as a son to Maharshi Atri. (Just like Anjaneya is the son of Anjana, it is Dattatreya is the son of Atri). But people understand this as three Devas taking birth in one body with three faces, which is not said in Hindu divine books.

28. Why Bhagavan Vishnu / Krishna is known as ‘Muralidhar’, ‘Murari’ and ‘Narakari’?

Answer: Muralidhar: Bhagavan Vishnu / Krishna is known as Muralidhar as he holds the Murali in his hand(s). Murari: Bhagavan Vishnu / Krishna has killed a demon known as Muran and thus he is known as Murari. Murari = Mura + ari = Mura the demon + killer.

Narakari: Bhagavan Vishnu / Krishna has killed a demon named. Narakasura and that’s the reason he is known as Narakari. Narakari = Naraka + ari = Narakasura demon + killer.

29. What are the different names of Ganga?

Answer: a. Vishnu Paadodbhavi – The originating place is from the paada / foot of Bhagavan Sri Vishnu. | b. Surasarita: Stream of many Demigods. | c. Bhagirathi: Descended on bhumi / earth because of the tapas / penance of King Bhagiratha. |

d. Tripatagamini or Tripataga – One who flows in all the three worlds, that is, Svarga (Heaven), Bhumi (Earth) and Netherlands. – i. In Svarga / Heaven, Ganga is known as Mandakini. – ii. On Bhumi / Earth, Ganga is known as Ganga itself. – iii. Netherlands, Ganga is known as Bhogavati. |

e. Padma – In Bangladesh, Ganga is known as Padma. – f. Svarga Ganga – In Svarga, Ganga is called as Svarga Ganga. | g. Jahnavi – The great Rishi / Sage Jahnu released Ganga from his ear and thus Ganga is also called as ‘Jahnavi’. | h. Alakananada – One of the main head streams of Ganga near Badrinath.

30. What is the correct order of Bhagavan Vishnu dasha avatars?

Answer: 1. Varaha Swamy | 2. Narasimha Swamy | 3. Matsya | 4. Kurma | 5. Vamana | 6. Parashurama | 7. Rama | 8. Krishna | 9. Buddha | 10. Kalki |

Many say it is Matsya avatar, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Vamana, Parashuma, Rama, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki is the correct order. But our Bhagavata Purana says the avatar as mentioned above with numbers is correct., that is, starting from Varaha Swamy avatar.

Proof: Bali Chakravarti was present during the Kurma avatar. He was heading all the demons for the amrita manthana. Whereas his grand father Prahlada Maharaja was present in Narasimha Swamy avatar itself.

If Kurma avatar has taken place before Narasimha avatar, how come Bali Chakravarti was present during the Kurma avatar, before the birth of his grand father Prahlada Maharaja.

31. Why Lord Vishnu is known as Padmanabh?

Answer: Before the creation of the universe, Lord Vishnu from the nabhi (navel) creates (gives birth) to Chatur Mukha Brahma Deva. While coming out of the navel, Brahma Deva will be sitting on a Lotus flower (Padma pushpa).

Thus Lord Vishnu is known as Padmanabha. Padmanabha = Padma + Nabh (Born from Nabhi). This means, he is the one who gives birth from his navel (nabhi).

32. Why Lord Vishnu / Krishna is known as Mukunda?
