Since Lord Ganesha has only one tooth, he is known as Ekadanta. To write Mahabharata, Bhagavan Sri Vedavyasa Ji appoints our Sri Ganesha.
Lord Ganesha is known as Kapila as his body colour is red. In Sanskrit, Kapila means red. Thus our Ganesha got the name as Kapila. Bhagavan Vishnu is also known as Kapila. These two are different.
Lord Ganesha’s another name is Gajakarnaka. Since our loving Ganesha is having ears like that of the elephant, He is known as Sri Gajakarnaka.
Ours Sri Parvati and Lord Shiva’s son Sri Ganesha likes modaka / modak, chakkali, nippattu etc very much. Thus his tummy is little bigger. For this reason, He is known as Sri Lambhodara. Lambhodara = Lambo + udhara. Lambo = Big, udara = tummy.
Lord Ganesha likes to be happy always. The Ganas who stay with Him are always kept happy by Ganesha. Thus Ganesha is known as Vikata. Vikata means someone who always stays happy and also makes others happy.
Sri Gowri Devi son’s another name is called as Sri VighNanaashaka. With the blessings of Bhagavan Vishnu, all the obstacles are destroyed by our Ganesha. Thus the name. VighNanashaka = VighNa + nashaka = VighNa = Obstacles, nashaka = destroyer.
Skanda brother’s name is Vinayaka. Our Ganesha is very polite and whoever believes / follows Him, even that person will by made polite by our Ganesha. Thus the name Vinayaka for our Ganesha. Vinayaka = Vinaya + nayaka, vinaya = politeness, nayaka = king / giver of politeness.
Ganesha likes the smoke that effulgence (spreads) during the pooja and also his body colour is illuminated with smoke. Thus the name. DhumravarNa = Dhumra + varNa, Dhumra = Dhupa / Dhup, varNa = body colour.
Ganesha is king, leader of all the gaja (elephant) / gaj / gaNa / gaN. Thus the name. GajAdhyeksha = Gaja + adhyeksha, gaja = gaja / gaNa, adhyeksha = adhyeksha / king / leader.
Our loving, Sri Ganesha is known as Sri BAlachandra. Ganesha is very loving son of his father Sri Shiva and mother Sri Parvatidevi and similar to His father Sri Ganesha also wears the Lord Sri Chandra on his forehead. Thus the name Sri Balachandra. Balachandra = Bala + chandra, Bala = son, Sri Shiva and Sri Parvati’s son, chandra = He is similar to Lord Chandradeva and also He wears the Lord Chandra on his forehead.
Ganesha’s another prominent name is GajAnana. Ganesha is having this name since his face is similar to gaja / gaj / elephant. GajAnana = Gaja + anana, gaja / gaj = elephant, anana = countenance / having face.

Lord Ganesha was white-colored. He had eight-arms and was known as Mayura Ganapati. His vahana / vehicle was Mayura / Peacock.
Lord Ganesha was rakta varna / red colored. He was manifested from the clay of the body of Sri Parvati Devi. His vahana / vehicle was mushaka / mouse and had chaturbhuja (four arms) and was known as Gajaanana Ganapati.
Lord Ganesha is known as Dhumraketu Ganapati.
